About

“I remember when I was a little girl, waiting at the end of my driveway. I had already missed the school bus, but I stood there anyway… envying the birds.”

Home is Where One Starts... is a short, first-person exploration game in the same vein as Dear Esther or Gone Home. It’s an experience where every object has been carefully placed to tell a poignant story—a story about childhood, hope, and the miracle of memory. You play as a little girl from a broken home somewhere in the American South. Exploring the lonely countryside reveals clues and vignettes which help the player answer the question of where home is—and how one can get there.Key features:
  • A quiet, non-linear story told by the future self of a reflective narrator
  • Inspired by the rural countryside and stories like John Steinbeck’s East of Eden and Terrence Malick’s The Tree of Life
  • A 15-30 minute experience that can be completed in one sitting
  • An experience that focuses on atmosphere rather than action or puzzles
  • A rich, detailed environment that rewards players who explore with story insights and secret endings
  • Oculus Rift DK2 support (currently in beta)

This is not a Game. I do not recommend it because theres no fun and nothing to do. The main part is just walking around for triggering scripts that drives the story but a major problem with that is you have to trigger a script to get a key for a shed. The key is inside a drawer but unfortunately the drawer will only appear as usable when the script is triggered. This might be magic, because usally i can open anything and do not have to trigger a script. The graphics are realy poor and more the models, nothing fancy. It is just to ugly for exploring but no problem, there is nothing to explore, just a tiny piece of Land sourrounded by invisible walls. And do not expect more than 30 Minutes of "gameplay". Poor. So so poor!

' ' Home is where one starts ' ' tells a Story of a little Girl wlches, and so you fall into the Story that Bus has missed. As she roams through the area, she recounts Flashbacks. + The Game is a testament to pure Atmaosphemisphere that puts us in the Game right away! + The Graphics are very handsome and incredible for a meagre 50ct. -It's a little short ... A ' ' pass can take between 10-30 minutes. But this is also justified since the Game is a One-man Project. Conclusion: Why hasn't this Game received more Attention? The Atmosphere is incredible and the Music is also very engaging. For a dune 50ct, you dished out a Masterpiece Of the Short Story here. You Can't use 50ct on Steam any better.

Home is Where One Starts Is a small indie game by Developer David Wehle. To the Plot: A little Girl from a shattered Childhood Home misses her School Bus one Day. After that, it roams through the home environment without a fixed Plan, discovering various things that evoke some Emotions and Memories. Go to the Graphic: You play from a First-person perspective. The Graphics are of course not like a brand new AAA title, but still nice to look at – Light set And the various Natural Elements are particularly successful. To Sound: The Music underlines the melancholy Character of the Game, the Soundscape outdoors sounds enchanting. The more rarely seen Language Sections are just as good. Nice Work. For Control: This is very simple and kept without unnecessary Frills. Jumping and Racing is not possible, but it is not necessary for the Game. As far as atmosphere is Concerned: Home is Where One Starts puts its entire Emphasis on the Atmosphere – accordingly, it is very good. Melancholy and hopeful. Conclusion: The Game is a successful indie project, which is very short at the same time. It is possible to play Home is Where One Starts and all Achievements in about 15 Minutes – but most will still need a lot more. The Reason for this is that the Objects to be found are usually quite small and scattered over a large Radius – so you can't achieve anything with a hectic Style of play. In the End, however, it will not be more than 2 hours. Those who do not master English, do not have Time to stop or look for seemingly inconspicuous Things should leave their Fingers off it.
