Resident Evil 2 is the remake of the 1998 game of the same name.


The plot of the remake is identical to that of the original game. The story follows the survivors of a zombie virus outbreak in the fictional Raccoon City. There are two protagonists: Claire Redfield, a high school student, and Leon Kennedy, a policeman. They both search for the ways to escape the infested city. Companions, such as Ada Wong and Sherry, occasionally follow the protagonists. The characters eventually uncover the dark secrets of the Umbrella Corporation, which created the virus as a biological weapon, and fight its monsters, such as the Tyrant.


The player controls either Leon or Claire from the third person view in a 3D environment. The two protagonists' storylines are intertwined. The player can complete the scenario playing one of the protagonists, and then replay it from the other character's POV, with all his previous actions taken into account. The game combines puzzle solving with zombie fights. Both protagonists use firearms as their main weapon; however, ammo is scarce.

Changes from the original

Besides the updated graphics, the remake features a new camera and controls. In the original game, the controls were relative to the position of the player's character rather than the camera. The remake uses an over the shoulder camera, and the movements are relative to its angle. There's also no more loading screens, and the characters move between locations seamlessly.

I've never been more than a passing appreciator of the original Resident Evil 2, and have in fact probably said more than once that it's a tad overrated when compared to its sharper, more focused predecessor. I'm not sure whether that was a help or a hindrance when it came to giving this remake its fair shake, but I do know that this is one hell of a game. Seems to strike the perfect balance between modern gaming QOL concessions and the survival horror tropes of yore. It's not just another tired Resident Evil 4 iteration like the dreadfully boring Revelations games, nor is it an RCPD skin applied to the shockingly great Resident Evil 7, either. No, it's its own new evolution of what RE is, and it makes me really excited to see what comes next. (and if that's RE3, I'll be there on day one) Thumbs Up 9/10 PlayStation 4 version Played through many times, 100% completion, unlocked Platinum trophy

This one is simple. Resident Evil 2 felt like true an honest re-make for a classical game. Not only it honors old school UI elements, somewhat glitchy animations, and super cheesy dialogues, but it also brings back long forgotten joy of wanting to complete a game as quick as possible, just to be able to start it again. It's quite uncommon these days. Truly exceptional game I'd easily recommend to every fan of a thrill.

A classic will always be a classic, what I forgot is the claustrophobia that playing in narrow corridors and the tension of not knowing what's around the corner, by the way, this is a game that must be played with headphones, the sounds keep me on an edge and creep the hell out of me, the world needs more games like this.

Безусловно игра отличная. Я прошел ее сходу 5 или 6 раз кажется, что само за себя говорит. В современной оболочке - тот самый геймплейный хоррор, враги страшные потому что у тебя мало патронов, а не потому что они из-за угла выпрыгивают и кричат. НО, есть ряд серьезных аспектов, которые сделаны на порядок хуже чем в оригинале: 1) Гигантский шаг назад в проработанности сценариев. Сценарии А и Б действительно игрались по-разному 20 лет назад, там были разные боссы, разные локации и самое крутое - взаимодействие между сценариями (не открыл дверь в А, то она будет заперта и в Б). Ничего этого нет в ремейке. Сценарии А и Б совершенно одинаковы, отличие только в точке входа в полицейский участок, которое полностью перестает влиять на игру через 15 минут 2) Простой и глупый сюжет и диалоги оригинала и то выглядят более адекватно чем в ремейке. Просто к примеру, в оригинале все загадки, картины и статуи в полицейском участке объясняется нездоровой любовью шефа к искусству. Глупо ну и ладно. В ремейке это типа объяснили, полицейский участок находится в здании музея. Ок, т.е. это нормально что под музейным экспонатом тайный проход в канализацию, который открывается экспонатами-медалями. Что за чушь вообще?  3) Платные костюмы. 4) Неубиваемый тиран. Даже Немезиса из третьей всегда можно убить, хотя первые прохождения у тебя и мысли попробовать не возникает. А здесь шаг назад к "кинцу", когда игра сама решает за тебя твои действия. Из-за несоответствия в этих аспектах оригиналу оставляет вкус разочарования. Хотя по факту игра почти шедевр.
