Atari 2600 (initially released an Atari Video Computer System or VCS) is the first home video game console made by Atari. It was the first commercially successful game console that used ROM-cartridges to store the games. The console had supported several different controllers including paddles, driving controllers and a keyboard, but the most popular and widely used controller was Atari CX40 that consisted of a joystick and one action button. Due to the hardware limitations, most of the Atari 2600 games did not include a soundtrack, had no separate levels and were centered on getting as many points as possible as opposed to completing the game. Some of the most popular games for the system were ports of arcade games like Space Invaders, Pac-Man, and Asteroids because of the high popularity of arcades and at the time. Though Atari 2600 was a success regarding sales and profit for the company, the lack of quality control of the games and market oversaturation led to the video game crash of 1983 that until NES release ending the era of Atari dominance on the video game consoles market.
