About

The experiment

Experimental side-scrolling fighting game for two players developed and published by the Messhof studio. Players compete in fencing in the pixelated game world. Despite the simplicity of the concept and of the controls, the game is very competitive, and many media called the game one of the best multiplayer experience of 2014. The name is consonant with serpent from the Norse mythology Níðhöggr, the snake appears in the game, eating the winner of the duel. The game draws inspiration from the game, which was released in 1984 - Great Swordsman, and for development used software GameMaker: Studio, which is available on Steam. Who wouldn’t want to create a game where you impale a friend, eh?

Key features

Players get control over two game models that differ only in color. Controls are standard: jump, move, slide and throw the sword at your opponent. You can attack at three different heights: high, medium and low. Hit the opponent's sword to disarm the latter, and he will have to raise the sword again. The main task is to reach the end of the enemy territory. The first player who accomplished this wins. There are four different levels available for solo, local and online multiplayer. Later, the developers added new modes, like a tournament and the ability to use weapons differently.

Nidhogg reviews and comments

Everything the artstyle lacks in depth, the combat makes up for. This could be considered the ultimate 1v1 simulator.

Nidhogg-The Game declares itself after a few Minutes of play. You can't say as much about the Game either except that it definitely has the Makings of becoming a Classic. The 8bit Graphics also make the Game unique and just totally match the Game principle and it's very nice to play a Game again that's not based on the latest CryEngine .. Or what else there is. With a Friend, it just makes you feel Good. On Your Own it can get boring very quickly, as unfortunately there are only four Maps. The Hopes remain that new Maps may be added. However, because of the limited Number of Maps, it will also be boring in pairs after a While. Since, in Principle, you only ever do the same thing. But in spite of all this, it just makes you feel completely Like when you have a Fellow Player. And the Control is also even even even very simple, whether it's a Controller or a Keyboard. You can also do extra "Attacks," which also gives the Game a variety of Things. In Fact, you can discuss the Price, because for four Maps, the Price is actually a bit expensive. But the Hopes remain open. And I just recommend it to anyone who wants to play against each other with a Fellow Player. Exciting else pre-programmed.

This Game is simple and awesome. So just awesome! Once you get the Hang of It, you get hooked. Addicted to the Carnage and sweet Victory. The Whole thing is actually simple and self-explanatory after getting acquainted with the Control. Whether it's a short Match with Friends or an entire Tournament with up to 8 Players. All just a Few Clicks away. Also, the invite to a Match is done with only 2 Clicks. The entire Menu is extremely simple and user-friendly. Online doesn't necessarily have to be played either. Two Players can also be controlled together on a Keyboard. One with WASD and the other With the Arrow keys. By the way, controller support is also available for those who can handle the Controller better;) As I find, 15€ 15am is really a little too much for such a simple Knitted game. However, I would still recommend it. Steamsales are very suitable for this;) I got the 2 pack at the Autumn Sale for only 3.44€ and it was really worth it. It's worth every Penny. The Game Mechanics are still very much in need of getting used to at first, but after a few Hours practice quite manageable. I recommend changing the Default Control un from jumping and attacking before you start playing, because on "G" and "F" I think I have lost nothing! In addition, as with every Game, there are also a few small Bugs. During my first Season of 4 Hours, however, I could only find 2, but these can be ignored for the normal Game. Otherwise, everything was fine. All in all, it's a simply ingenious Game. So If you don't know what to play, this Game is perfect for in between. And even if you don't have an Internet, go offline. There is also a Single-player ampania for Hourly fun. Unless you lose on and want to enter the Monitor xD Then you'd better stop;) Such OP Bots sometimes really drive you mad!!
