There's an AI that will dynamically scale the difficulty based on your playstyle.

Several enemy have special resistances and weaknesses.

Towers can augment each other or be a detriment to each other.  For example, projectile turrets augment poison turrets because if you have holes in the enemy, the poison can seep in!
