A Meeting (Demo)
About
WHAT IS THIS?
This is a demo for a genre of RPG which combines elements from both tabletop and text-based adventure games: the hybrid-RPG. Ultimately, this demo is designed to show some of the potential of what is possible within the “hybrid-RPG” as a potential genre/interactive fiction game design formalism.
WHY DID YOU MAKE THIS?
I was trying to crack how to do a one-player tabletop RPG, and ended up utilizing an automated GM via software (along with a TTRPG-style game engine) to provide friction, consequence, and choice.
WHAT DO YOU DO IN A HYBRID-RPG?
Playing as a character already saddled with history within the world of the game, you’ll build their personality in a character sheet and roll die (1d6 required for play) to determine the consequences of your actions during your exploration of an experience of your character’s, as that character, as it occurs.
Test the facets of your BODY, MIND and WILL: A high Applied Physicality skill will ensure you’re always in control of your physical form, while points in the Chaos skill will enable you to more readily feel and understand what lies beyond what most others can access. There are nine unique skills to utilize when deciding on your character’s personality, which will be tested during the course of the game.
I WENT THROUGH THIS WEIRD THING, AND I’D LIKE TO MAKE A HYBRID-RPG MYSELF. CAN I DO THAT?
Yes, absolutely. Take whatever you need from these concepts, and throw out what you don’t; ultimately, this is a game-like literary platform- designed to be used, hopefully pushed forward by those who do. Accreditation would be nice, but if you feel you’ve done enough to modify the concepts presented to the point that you don’t feel it’d make sense to redirect credit back here, I’m no narc.
