Review, written on 9.08.2016 Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare came out in 2001 and is the fourth Installment in the Franchise. The Game does not require any Prior Knowledge about its Predecessors. As FBI Agent Edward Carnby, a Mansion and Surrounding area are being investigated. Anthropologist Aline is the second playable Character. In the Beginning, you have to choose one of the two. Each Char has a different Course of Play, where you meet in between. The Game is reminiscent of the first Resident Evil And plays so similar. Creepy House, Ammunition shortages, puzzles, search For Keys and Weapons. However, enemies are not Zombies but Monsters. Unfortunately, the Game is completely in English. You can Save at any time, provided you have the Items for it. The Controls are outdated, but they work as they should. Game runs under Win 7 impeccably. Since the Graphics and Sound are totally outdated, only Retrogamers and People who know the Game of old will have Fun. 2001 a Hammer Game! Now a Retropearl For which you have To spend time and Patience.

The Release date here is clearly misleading. As Private Investigator Edward Carnby or as an ethnology professor Aline Cedrac, a Mansion and Surrounding area is examined on Shadow Island and struggles with technical Flaws. The Game is presented in different, preset camera Angles and the 3D Game Characters act in front of pre-rendered, two-dimensional Backdrops. You explore, solve Puzzles and fight unnatural Creatures, with the Flashlight being an essential Game element. Although 75 years are between Part 3 and 4, Carnby has not aged without somehow explaining that. I have absolutely no Understanding that the Game on Steam is not in German, as I have the Original from 2001 in German! Here, the GOG Version of a bad Port was simply taken at the Time and clapped into the SteamStore, which also doesn't even run on Windows 10!
