A Bastard's Tale reviews

The only thing that TRULY bugs me is that the controls are a bit counter intuitive... also: no stabbing or blocks against stabbing attack? I mean... in it's current state mastering the game has little to do with skill and more with trial and error as your own swings are incredibly slow and so is the Knight/Bastard one plays as, while the enemies' moves are sometimes hard to predict... the feedback/impact from being hit is sometimes very... odd/aweful... In it's current state I cant recommend the game though I see a LOT of potential... just think of the various weapons and combat styles the game could implement to make things interesting! But alas, that's not the case as of now, which is a shame :( I hope the developers work on it... I really like the pixel art-style and the general idea behind it... but... as said the controls are just artificial difficulty and the fights are repetitive... at first you will die a lot and once you know the patterns hardly at all until you encounter the next type of enemy where you have no clue to defeat them until you experiment and die until you figure it out. Also the unessecary slowness of your character draws the game into length which certainly does not add to the value of the game.

Back to the good, old Days. The high-quality Pixel Graphics Are a High Pleasure for every Old-school Zocker and are very reminiscent of MOONSTONE. The Game principle Also resembles: We slasp through herangal-popping Animals and enemy Knights. In doing so, we study the behavior in detail and parry/react accordingly. Even the Hardness is hardly inferior to old Titles. The Music does not consist of "Chiptunes" and sounds more "new"; Nevertheless, extremely fitting and atmospheric. Background Animations and Characters are of high quality and convey a unique Atmosphere. All in all, a glorious nostalgia feeling comes up when Playing. Very authentic-just like you're in the late 80s. A little bit of a shame I think there's no real Story. No Modifications. No Upgrading. Nothing. And that was also the Intention behind A Bastard's Tale: Pure retro skill netting without much Klamauk. Nevertheless... A second Part in the same Armor ... With beautiful Cutscenes, a Story and various Weapons ... That would be a Bliss. Sad That the Game is getting so little Attention at Steam. If you like the Trailer and address this Review, you can also buy the Game for the Full Price instead of hitting the Sale. The History of the Bastard really deserves all the Support. In another World, that Would be part of a Classic; In the Modern, it sinks between Scrap metal. A real Insider Tip and for me again KULT from the Indy area.
