Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back reviews

20 years after the pitiful Bubsy 3D on PlayStation that everyone has ever heard of, it is back. But is he going to play us a bad trick? What is this new Bubsy worth? So first, I want to reassure some: does Bubsy speak? yes. Is it boring? Not on the contrary it is even rather funny when he wants our brave little Lynx, especially when he makes fun of his passage on Playsation. Let's go into the heart of the matter starting with the weaknesses of the game. First of all, you may have noticed it by looking at my number of hours on the game, it is extremely short (less than 2 hours to finish it and say 4 hours if you want to finish it at 100%). In fact there are only 3 environments and 3 bosses. Then, in the way of a metal slug, your lives are actually credits and you own 9 at the beginning of a level. If you die nine times, game over and you have to start over at the beginning (not the game). The problem lies in the bosses, when you die, they do not recover their life gauge and I happened to start a fight and finish it just after I put a single blow to the boss because of it. As for the level design, it is also not possible to say that the developers have stepped (except perhaps for the last world and still). At the level of the bestiary, there are about 3 kinds of enemies (including the famous enemies without arms of Bubsy 3D) and it might seem SHAMEFUL if the game did not count only fifteen levels. The last two flaws are the music, which is not really boring but that is absolutely not memorable, and the fact that Bubsy slides a little bit before stopping (in the way of Luigi in the new Super Mario Bros on portable consoles). Now, the strengths. For a platformer to be successful, it takes a good gameplay, and fortunately this one is really excellent! Bubsy is very light, the jumps/double-jumps are well managed and it is very enjoyable to control, which makes the game interesting for the speedrunners that will find their happiness without problems. The game is rather beautiful contrary to what the trailer suggests (it could have come out early in the life of the PS4... or switch, at your option). The harvest of all the balls of wool is also very addictive (there are 600 or 700 per level) and you never want to leave a level without having everything picked up. The bosses, though very easy, have interesting patterns. The difficulty of the levels is rather increasing, which is a good thing (but it is true that if we decide to Rusher a level, we finish it in 1min 30). I can now make my verdict: Bubsy the Woolies strike back is a good game that I advise (it does not go beyond) and especially to the budding speedrunners. Of course, I also advise you to buy Bubsy 2 which is located in the steam store at a maudic sum during the promos and which is far superior. Nevertheless, we have fun, there is challenge and let's not forget what the previous was like, Bubsy comes back from afar! One last thing for the excited of the gamepad who tend to pound the button to restart a level after having a game over, do not do it because Bubsy automatically returns to the beginning of the world map, either to the tutorial, that you will then have the liking IR to start over. (you can of course leave it but it remains slightly annoying) SPOILERS: this game certainly serves as a mouthwatering for a next more ambitious Bubsy, as we indicate a magnificent artwork at the end of the game.
