About

One of TIME’s top ten games of 2016, Burly Men at Sea is a folktale about a trio of large, bearded fishermen who step away from the ordinary to seek adventure.
Set in the waters of early 20th-century Scandinavia, the game's story branches through a series of encounters with creatures from folklore. You play as storyteller and wayfinder, shaping the narrative around three ungainly heroes. Play through once for a single tale, then set sail again to uncover paths to new adventures.FEATURES
Branching Story: Play through multiple choice-driven adventures, each designed to be completed in a single sitting.
Innovative Controls: Shape the narrative through a unique, draggable viewport and your interactions within it.
Playful Aesthetic: Colorful art style with handcrafted animation, set to a whimsical original soundtrack inspired by the game’s Scandinavian setting.ABOUT THE DEVELOPER
Burly Men at Sea is the second game from husband-and-wife team Brain&Brain, developed during their own adventures as nomads and erstwhile farmhands.

Burly Men at Sea reviews and comments

Three bearded fishermen discover a treasure map and go on an adventure in this Nordic interactive tale. I liked elegantly sleek graphics that know how to be minimalistic without being simplistic soundtrack composed of nice music and sound effects to the mouth that contributes to a nice atmosphere astute gameplay in point & click the Scandinavian spirit through the narration and dialogues I did not like my first adventure lasted less than 30 minutes discover that it is necessary to start again each time the short story to explore the different possible branches I do not know why but despite all its qua qualities, I did not hang in this title, I did not immerse myself in history, I did not interested in the fate of the three heroes. The basic price too high conclusion on paper, this title had everything to please me but the charm has finally never fully operated. The end of the game really happens too quickly, before you have time to immerse yourself in its universe and attach itself to its characters. I probably would have preferred a longer, even more linear, adventure to take me in this evocation of the folklore of the great North. To recommend therefore especially to players willing to endure the repetitive dimension of the sequence of the (almost) even short adventure a dozen times. Although the experience did not personally perfectly agree, I finally chose to put a blue thumb because burly men at sea is filled with pretty creative ideas made with great care. Besides, I have not uninstalled it yet and I do not completely exclude the idea of coming back to have a second impression.

Adventure at Sea Far across the Sea ... Gameplay "Burly Men at Sea" can't even be described as a Game. In the 2D View, we control three Brothers and decide at the Click Of a Mouse where to go or what to do. It is important to note that the Control has not been adapted by Android and you have to pull like on the Handy/Tablet with pressed Mouse. Otherwise, you just go your Way and decide exactly how the Story continues, because this Game thrives on Decisions, the Replay value and The Exploration of new Scenarios. After about 20 Minutes you played through One of the 12 Scenarios and start again at the Beginning. Story We play 3 Brothers, all of whom go to Sea at the same time: Hastigbart, Mutigbart and Stetigbart. These find a Bottle Post with an almost empty Card. This encourages them to go On adventures and they set Sail. From here I can't say much, because from this Moment onwards there are already different Scenarios. There are several Branches, although it has to be mentioned that the Story is based on a Scandinavian Folk Tale and we meet many mythical Figures such as Nymphs or the Ferryman. Even if you have to repeat familiar Parts of History, by the way, that doesn't Detract from the Game. There was a thought and so there are new Dialogues in old Scenarios, which loosens the Whole thing up again. The Dialogues are generally quite amusing and the Feeling that you hold a Book in your Hand comes across very well in my Opinion. By the way, the German Translation has succeeded very well! Graphicat/Sound The Graphic Style Dispenses with many Details and is rather minimalist. In general, the Game looks like it's made of Paper, which makes a positive and creative Impression on me. In terms of Sound technology, the Game is deliberately restrained. The Sounds sound as if the Narrator is practically mimicking them and therefore sound deliberately artificial. The Music usually stays in the Background, but was really composed with Love and fits very nicely with the Places in the Game. Verdict I thought the first Time I saw "Burly Men at Sea": "Hm, demand €10 for such a short and easy Game?" But then it was not only designed for longer than expected by the many Passages, but also wonderfully. While I would recommend buying it on Offer, players who are not looking for a Challenge but a nice Story will find what you're looking for with this Title! When I don't sail across the Sea, I write Reviews. For more of the same, it's along here.
