Chain Blast (LÖVE2D Jam Demo)

Chain Blast is a retro-styled game where you match 3 or more chains of the same color by linking them together.

The game's main inspiration is Chainz made by the MumboJumbo company, all the way back in 2004!

This game is a submission to the LÖVE2D Game Jam 2023.

Instructions

Use your mouse to click and drag over subsequent chains of like color in a straight line in order to create a string of 3 or more chain pieces.

Matching the chains will turn underlying tiles gold. In order to win a level, you need to make all tiles gold!

Beware! You're on a tight time limit! In order to get a bit of extra time, create chains of 4 or more pieces. You only get three attempts on each level!

Jam-specific hint: Because quite a lot of people have been struggling with this game due to its high difficulty level, there's a builtin cheat which allows you to jump to any of the 10 levels.

1. Click "New Game".
2. Wait until the menu screen starts fading away.
3. Press a number on the keyboard (not numeric keypad!).
4. The game will start at that designated level (pressing 0 will start level 10).

Current Status

There are 10 levels in this demo in total.

An update has been released on March 1, 2023, which fixes the rectangles and lines! The rest has been retained because it's a game jam.

Planned features include:

• Saving the game progress
• More levels, obstacles and other tile types
• Further in, maybe some game modes?
• I'll listen to your feedback, too! This is a demo, everything can happen!

The game is open-source and its source code can be found on Github.
