Chuckie Egg (arcade)
About
Written in Z80 assembly for Ponpoko hardware, which is essentially Pacman hardware with two extra sprites wired in (sprite registers 0 and 7 are not connected on a real Pacman board, though they will show in MAME).
-----------------------------------------------------------
Based on the ZX Spectrum version by the original creator, Nigel Alderton, who strangely never seemed to get credited on the various ports to other systems.....
-----------------------------------------------------------
It's the port possibly only one person wanted, the home computer classic from 1983, complete with its trademark janky physics and platforming action, now playable on arcade hardware via an emulator such as MAME, FPGA core or if in the unlikely event you own a Ponpoko board, a real arcade cabinet!
Must be run via command line to work in MAME, i.e:
mame.exe ponpoko
------------------------------------------------------------
Controls (MAME defaults)
- Arrow keys to move
- 1 to jump (P1 start)
------------------------------------------------------------
Feedback on any gameplay differences from those familiar with the ZX Spectrum original is welcome, if I can track down the random number generator in the original disassembly I may be able to replicate the exact movement sequences of the birds, however the fact they have different patterns does offer a new challenge.
