About

A grid-based dungeon-crawler, in classic first person perspective.
Crystal Rift is an inspired by classic dungeon games such as Dungeon Master and Eye of the Beholder with grid-based movement, it has been developed primarily for Virtual Reality headsets, but is also a great experience for those without headsets.

It's an experiential horror challenge game that takes the player through a series of increasingly mysterious locations. Crystal Rift has 26 levels, with unique styles and settings, to provide many hours of gameplay. The player slowly uncovers the narrative and story through exploration, discovering dark secrets and following the path of those who have come before.

Use the In Game Dungeon Editor to build entirely new adventures and challenges for other players to solve.

  • Classic dungeon crawling experience with grid-based movement, monsters, hidden rooms, pressure plates, trapdoors, fireballs, challenges, tactics and more.
  • Designed for Virtual Reality First, this leads to a rich immersive 3D environment with details you can lean into and see, this also presents perfectly in 2D.
  • A unique and compelling story told through the environment, text and speech
  • Optional Scare level, Off, Normal or Extreme
  • Optional Difficulty levels including hardcore perms-death
  • 26 Levels with many hours of gameplay.
  • An ingame Editor, you can create, edit and share maps built inside the game, no external tools required.

WARNING: Crystal Rift is an intense (but awesome) experience in VR, it takes time to get your VR Legs, please take baby steps if you are sensitive to locomotion in VR play in very short sessions and perhaps try cages, sitting down and a controller if you are still effected, the second you feel a bit of nausea please stop and take a break

Crystal Rift reviews and comments

Tested with the Vive, standing up: Control is not so good. Nausea not ruled out. Captured Motion Controllers: Yes, but for what? Totally useless. When you stand in front Of a Congenment, everything gets around nix. You have to press the Trigger, then the Sword beats-baths. Otherwise I like the Game, but the Controls ... The don't. For 10 Euros, everyone can think for themselves whether they buy it. Presumably it will be more Fun without a Controller and while Seating.

For any HTC Vive user: worse game ever! worst roomscale support ever! you move chunk by chunk by pressing a button on your controller and you rotate by 90° with an other button click. Fighting system sucks. You dye if you get hit and you press a button to make your handtracked sword attack. This is not made for the amaysing vive by any means and makes you sick! Oh! BTW every switch or key or ennemy is outside of your shaperone!!!! Please devs, remove HTC Vive support from listing, it clearly doesnt work with it. /!\ Moving in the game by the press of a button is could make you fall if you play the game standing!!!

Early Access Review Very atmospheric Game where you walk through Caves and Grottoes. Every now and then there was a Problem to solve and sometimes you get a little bit scared by Figures. In particular, this Experience reflects the Oculus Rift DK2, which makes you feel like you're diekt there. For Example, you can lean beyond your Position to lure into a Ravine or around the next Corner. Really hard-pressed horror fans probably won't really enjoy the Game, as so far (Level 3) there are no real Shockers. Such People should rather look at and play Affected from FallenPlanetStudios. From me there is a clear Buy recommendation of the EarlyAccess title, which runs very stable despite the EarlyAccess! :)

I find the Game is a good Start. It gives an actual lcih the Feeling of being on the road in a Dungeon. The Music Accompaniment is also super Atmospheric. However, the Spile will certainly only come into its own In VR. I wouldn't play it without Glasses. With Glasses, however, I Think it is the most Atmospheric Dungeon Crawler in VR at the Time. Unfortunately, the Control is not quite optimal yet. I have the Main Problem with the Fact that you have to bat at The touch of a button and not by Hand Gesture. Running by touch pad is unusual, but then goes quite loose off your Hand. The Story is ... Well, let's not talk about it. Nevertheless, the individual Floors are quite Lovingly designed. If there were now a real Characking System, then an "Eye of Beholder VR" would not be much missing. The Rätzel are fine but of course not on the Niveu of a Legend of Grimrock. Still, I haven't regretted buying and I'm hoping for much more VR Dungeon Crawlers.
