Cthulhu Realms reviews

Bad in many aspects: Art, even on high resolutions the art isnt well resoluted at all, i further dislike a lot of the card drawings. In my eyes the whole fun about Cthulhu direction makes it worse. Just a matter of taste ofcourse but overall the drawings arent that interesting or well done. Repetitive, the cards get boring quite fast. There arent many directions for your deck to go and after youve tried them all it wont get anymore interesting. There arent enough different cards in my eyes aswell. Graphics, are very basic. Even for being a card game presentation can be very well done. Looking at other card games that come from physical versions like the Lord of the Ring Living Card Game, Cthulhu is just too basic. It feels absolutely cheap. Just look at the screenshots of the digital version of the Realms Games, they are low resoluted, uninspired, plain bad. I rather recommend playing the games on a boardgame simulation engine (e.g. Tabletop Simulator) than with this app. In fact, i would rather have seen White Wizard hand over a licensed package to Tabletop Simulator to provide a "legal" way to play it there instead of making their own game in a low quality engine. Design, is also lacking and basic at best. The gameplay premise is ofcourse similar to the other Realms Games, but somehow here it misses a lot of what makes Hero Realms great and Star Realms interesting. Overall though, the UI is the worst. Its clunky, bad to use, just a pain in fact and wasting your time. We arent even talking about controls and layout being intuitive, thats a too high standard. I would be ok if it was just in some way usable and ok-ish. But it isnt. I could name a dozen points where design failed, an example would be to have the actions of your opponent popping up in white text on the right, no textbox to frame it and it also disappears instantly when a new action is taken. So its basically pointless, takes up a lot of space, just jumps into your picture all the time and so has pretty much no reason to be there at all. The used fonts are looking like low quality, buttons feel cheap and seem even misplaced. Overall, Cthulhu Realms is somewhat a nice idea in theory, but execution is horrific. Not only should they have stayed on a more serious tone (a Cthulhu Deckbuilding Game with a serious and horror-esque approach would in and of itself be amazing anyway), but also should they have invested more time to really make a polished transfer from physical to digital. As said, there are other examples of how this can be done properly. Talisman, LOTR LCG, The Witcher Boardgames, Gremlins Inc., even the very old Magic Games and the Dominion Online App seem much better. I recommend making new apps of their games they should give the contract to a different studio, because this one cant provide quality.
