Cuphead
About
Hand-drawn 2D platformer in the style of 30s cartoons. 2D Dark Souls as the fans refer to the difficulty of this one. It took developers 6 years to create and polish their magnum opus. Cuphead is a classic run and gun adventure that heavily emphasizes on boss battles.
Play as Cuphead or his brother Mugman that signed a deal with the devil and know needs to bring the master souls of its debtors. Players can go through the campaign single-handedly or with a friend using built-in co-op capabilities.
The backgrounds, characters and other miscellaneous staff were painstakingly created using the methods from the era it mimics; Every character and every scene were hand-drawn to mimic vintage American cartoons. Each note in the orchestral soundtrack was composed with unparalleled attention to detail. Cuphead is an addictive mix of bone-crushing difficulty, fun and audiovisual feast that instantly makes you crave for more.

Cuphead reviews and comments
I’m very impressed with the creativity in this game. Each boss/level feels very different. It has a soulslike style to memorizing the attack patterns and figuring out how best to beat these very challenging bosses.
The highs and lows of this game are huge. Mostly because it’s really challenging which can create some frustration, but also when I beat a level I’m fired up. Although even when frustrating, the game always looks incredible. I really love the style and music is also awesome. I don’t know what it is but the opening menu little sound bite gets me every time. I really like it. This type of game isn’t my fave genre but im still liking it a bunch, for the most part. It does require a certain mood though.
Beat the main campaign. That dice final boss was honestly the hardest boss fight I can remember in awhile. The devil was also challenging but not nearly as tough. I had moments I felt so defeated against the dice boss. Thought about giving up. Im done with Cuphead for now but at some point I will definitely play the delicious last course.
And about 8 months later I’m back for the delicious last course. Beat the first two levels and it was a good reminder that Cuphead is great. The gameplay, art and music is awesome.
Beat TDLC. It was shorter but I liked the length. Cuphead was a fun game. I’m in for this studios next game.
Final Score: B+
