Dark Fall: The Journal reviews

About the Game The Lost Crown, I became aware of the Series Dark Fall. Lost Crown was exactly the Kind of Game I'd been waiting a long time for and Dark Fall joined in on it. Unfortunately, the Gameplay is a little different (Ego vs. third person), but the entire Story moves in the Universe of the Company Hadden Industries (the In-game outfitters of Ghost Hunter Technology). And well-known Names are also popping up. The Search in just one Place, the Train station, was a bit boring in places. For this, the Game was missed a few atmospheric Horror Moments-as it should be! :) Although it's already a few Years under its Belt, I'd like to recommend Dark Fall: The Journal (even though I could only play it in English at Steam) to any Grapp-/puzzle friend. It really can't be done here without the Joy of the puzzle! For that, Action falls by the Wayside.

You can already notice your Age in the game. Many Things that make today's Point & Clicks comfortable are missing. You can't make the Hotspots visible, so you have to look for everything to investigate it, and when you walk past it, you just have a Problem. That's realistic, but do I want that? There is a little Help, but in order to be able to use it, you would always have to run to a mostly distant Point, so I mostly let it be and preferred to keep trying my Mind. There is also no Diary or anything like that to have his important Findings written down. No, you have to write everything down with Pen & Paper (chuckle) (you actually have to write down some Things because then when you need them, you have to have everything together). Since you don't know at first what might be important, you are quite busy and make it a more arduous Game (from my Point of view). You can't enjoy the Graphics. VERY pixelated. After All, you move into a newly rendered Image with each Step. So It's Semi-3D. But they just mostly let the Sound be. The Controls are minimalist, but still with the Mouse. Stored in Text Files, which is why a "Save Under" window of Windows is placed over the Game with a 640x480 resolution. You can't run the Game properly in the Background either. The Story, the Plot is no more abstruse than with other Games. Horror feeling doesn't come up with me though, even though they told the Story in a relatively detailed way (ic don't hate me back after Outlast, that was Horror). The Puzzles were mostly quite reasonable, some Puzzles were (in my Opinion) but also beyond good (trying through options for action until you have the Solution; or aligning Objects exactly [drove me to Despair]) and "Puzzles" (which sometimes for a long time Meone Time until I gave it up) that would do nothing to Continue the Action (not even a Side quest). That, too, is realistic, after all. Pro & Contra: + mouse control o An old Style without much Help and anything else, with writing down and combining. o old Graphic (2003)-"Puzzles" that are not-Puzzles that can only be solved by trying-puzzles where you have to position objects exactly (!)-Almost no Sound-Medieval technique (E.g. saving, Using the Items) Rating: 04/10 What really annoyed me were Some of the Puzzles. Who doesn't put that off (or is just a better or more patient player) and who doesn't mind the outdated Playing Technique, just too. For me, it was only partly gratifying.
