Deiland describes itself as a RPG, Adventure and Sandbox game. As far as I played it, this is pretty right (4-5 hours when writing this review). As a backer on Kickstarter I could play it a week before the official launch.
TLDR:
good game, gameplay and mechanics video on youtube
https://youtu.be/JayOU6i2ZGM
Graphics:
graphics are good and smooth and fit the game in aspekt of style very well. Until now I encountered no glitches.
Sound and Music:
The music is relaxing and unobstusive, but a bit repetitive. It changes, when monsters enter the planet. The effects are fitting.
Gameplay:
you start on your planet with nearly nothing and have to start a working ecosysem. plant trees, wait for them to grow seeds, harvest seeds, chop wood. Trees are plantable if there is water
or you build a well
, vegetables and so on only on your fields
which are upgradeable
There are wild berries, which will feed you in the beginning (well honestly, I mostly eat this berries to save other ressources) which you can plant as well for more bushes. There is a hunger-mechanic, so you have to eat regulary.
For each action performed (harvesting, planting, fighting, crafting, ...) the charakter will get XP. If it's enough for a level up go to sleep to increase the level. By doing that, there are attribute points to distribute (Strenght, Intelligence, ...)
There is also limited energy. If the character is exhausted, it is not possible to farm things, chop wood, get stones, what ever. Sleeping fills your energy. Eat before sleeping as hunger grows.
Nearly every growing ressource you can harvest is also a seed. For example you harvest three carrots, and one is needed to plant in the field, so you can again harvest three carrots.
If you run out of some ressource, you can buy it from the visitors, that visit your planet from time to time.
With wood, metal, cotton and so on it is possible to craft things, make better axes and so on. The tent you live in in the beginning is also upgredable and expandable
(in the meaning of rooms like a kitchen)
Sometimes monsters appear, just hit them with the axe or the hammer. Fists do less damage. Fighting can be a bit clumsy as you see yourself only from behind, what makes it difficult to estimate your striking distance correctly.
Story:
The visitors that come to Deiland with their spaceships give quests, new materials, recipies and seeds and push the story forward. There is some secret on deiland
and you are able to visit other planets too (but not to build on them)
.
Summary:
Deiland is a neat and fun-to-play game and makes fun. Crafting, harvesting and planting, together with fighting varied, at least for the first hours. due some of the spoiler-marked comments I think, that it will keep a good flow. It has this "only 5 minutes more" effekt on me, because there is always something to do. I can recommend this one and will update my review after some hours more.
