About
Created by Daniel Wiltshire, Bradley Horseman, Thomas Jacobs, Nikola Skrzypczynska.
You are on a horror movie set preparing to film a new scene. The director (the PC player) is a new radical director believing in fresh and realistic acting which he achieves by giving his actors no scripts or information about the scenes affecting the actor’s sanity while shooting. The action star (the VR player) working on this director’s new film aims to provide the best scenes possible to impress him while also staying sane through the stressful process. This is Demented Direction.
A first of its kind asymmetric 3D built horror sandbox where one player creates hellish experience for another. Players access this experience through a PC and VR headset from the same system. With the combination of the aesthetics of shooter classics and an eerie horror overtone to create a truly unique experience.
The aesthetic of an old PC shooter from the 90’s. The art for the game creates an eerie, liminal environment being nostalgic and threatening at the same time. With the two different ways to play this game, players can aspect strategy, action, horror, suspense and more created by the way they can interact with this sandbox. The game is won by the VR player escaping by finding a key and using it on the escape door. However, for PC your goal is to kill the VR player with AI and to constantly scare them. This game supports a range of PCVR headsets, however only tested on the oculus rift s, allowing us to create a new experience for a new medium of games.
Demented Direction gives players the tools to scare their friends! With anyway of approach whether to create a mass AI enemy driven experience having the VR player battling hordes or to use scares to build up the game’s atmosphere to fill the VR player with fear.
Using a dual output through VR and PC screens means there is no chance of screen cheating with players truly not knowing what each other are doing building internal dread of what the people closest to you will put you through. With the game running from the system there is not chance of lag or internet interruptions offering an immersive experience without any chance of buffering.
The PC acts as the Director placing enemies, items and scares around the map keeping the VR player on their toes.
The PC player has the ability to become a director and see all that is happening with a versatile free cam which has the ability to transverse through all the map to get the best shot of the panicking VR player. With the wide range of spawn events given to the PC player, combinations can be made, a little contained story could be told but most importantly ever game can be made different. With a different combination of events one game could feel like a psychological horror and the next can be survival horror.
The VR acts as the actor, an upcoming action star looking for his break by defeating enemies searching rooms and finding a key to get out of this created hell.
Demented Direction includes a fully interactable handgun as the main weapon for the VR player. With the ability to change magazines and an interactable slide by grabbing each item on the model. This fully immersive gun allows players the closest feeling to reloading a gun within a game. However, with a lack of magazines means each bullet truly counts.
With a VR player’s input, the entire map has a range of interactable object from drawers to chairs, this allows the player to search through a room as immersed as possible to find the key or hidden ammo.
Taking full advantage of VR inside a survival horror shooters player can use an inventory for collected ammo throughout the map by simply placing it onto their belt which is easy and accessible.
Can you survive a personal designed hell? Can you make one of your close friend’s crack? Can overcome your fears? Will you be able to handle Demented Direction?
