Often turned into obsolete for the benefit of a frenetic action, the survival-horror (whether they are Indes or AAA) sometimes have trouble finding the efficiency and prestige of their elders. Expertly dosed and asking for a well-led fear management, it is clear that this kind of game is more complicated to do than a simple shooter. Here, the result is not really working and it is a pity because this game was developed by a small team having made good games DS at the time. I may have done the game twice (normal mode + difficult) to judge the challenge, I remain in mixed mood. Let me explain why.
For those who ignored it, Dementium is originally a DS license created by Renagade kid. Having been well received at the time, it stood out for its originality (little SH on DS) and its home graphics engine (quite efficient on DS). There, this is an HD port of the second pane. And if the word "HD" carries more or less well its name, it is more the basis of the game that is criticized.
From a graphical point of view (and resolution) it is clear that it is a real + for the game, because instead of being limited by the capacity of the DS, the game can take flight. Yes, but its not counting the qualities of textures. And that's one of the problems with this Portage. The finish! If we take the time to analyse the universe, read the notes... We realize that it is missing a few months of work in the game to be satisfactory. And so in the occurence several patch patches. It is not a disaster, but it taints the quality of the game. So a hint: avoid scrutinting the smallest detail and play there in English.
As the quality of the Portage is established, let's go to the game itself. And this is the main point that echoes my feelings...: medium. Clearly this is not one of the worst SH I have done! But we remain disappointed in the recipe because we expected better. First the game is not scary.
Fills up for a SH? Uh, more or less given that it's subjective and that the problem here comes from weapons. From the beginning of the game we find ourselves in possession of effective and non-degrading contendant weapons. From the cost we tend to use them quite often which makes us more confident than anything else. Moreover, I find that we have too much weapon in the end. It would have been wiser to put less. Second important criterion: the scenario. Rather than opting for an explicit narrative, Dementium 2 makes the choice (like others) to do so implicitly. Distributed through the intermediary of notes. This choice is understood in relation to the situation of the character but the problem is that it lacks clarity. Whether in number of notes or actual explanations, it is not to be fixed when to the overall frame. The evil within is also a beautiful mental headache, but is more worked and understands.
Finally I would talk about the positive points of the game. The most obvious is obviously for me the bestiare. Both original and malholy it gives a good point to the game. As for the LD (although not exceptional), it remains pleasant and well brought. Finally, I will spell out the quality of the soundtrack which, except during the combat sequences (its quite kitsch in the long) is of good Bill.
I tried to establish a clear and objective assessment of the quality of the game. However, in condition, I would not recommend it. Whether for a reason of finishing or understanding, I invite you ambiance (if you are interested) to do the games on DS. Allowing you to have a better view on the series.
