So, some feedback is that the player speed is too slow. As I'm not allowed to make changes to the game after jam submission, I put the power in your hands:
After starting a 'New Game', press the `~` key to bring up the console, and type `$game.args.state.game.player.speed = 6`

Just, y'know, don't buff yourself too much while you're in there (definitely don't touch player attributes like `max_hit_points`, `hit_points`, `shot_speed`, `shot_range`...)
W/A/S/D to fire up/down/left/right, CURSORS to move up/down/left/right, E to use bombs, Q to eat a mushroom (power up), SPACE to confirm in menus
