So, of all the origin locations in DAO, the only ones that aren't revisited, even by the Human Noble, is Castle Cousland (the ruins in the Dalish Elf origin are revisited in the Witch Hunt DLC, while the Dalish Elf's clan itself is absent due to its' involvement in DA2). I was wondering about how an in-game quest would incorporate Highever into the game, and I came up with a brief outline:The massacre and "treachery" of the Cousland family is still mentioned in-game, but there is also talk that Arl Howe is sending more soldiers from Highever to fight the Bannorn and that there's been no news out of Castle Cousland. During a random world encounter, the Warden's party would save a former Cousland servant (1) from Howe soldiers. The grateful servant (who recognises a Human Noble Warden) explains that he escaped the initial slaughter at Castle Cousland, and was pressed back into service afterwards, but managed to escape when "the demons started showing up." They thought someone ought to know what had happened - someone who cared, at least. Howe works for Loghain, and whatever hurts one hurts the other. The player can either accept or refuse the quest. If it is refused, the servant will leave and not return. The party goes to Castle Cousland and finds it still wrecked and overrun by demons, drawn there by the mass death which weakened the Veil. They defeat a group of demons alongside a small band of surviving Howe soldiers. They recognise you as the Grey Warden Howe told them about (and as a Cousland if Human Noble), but will take any help they can get, mentioning that they haven't heard from their commander, Arl Howe's son, Thomas, since the trouble started. The player can then either:a. Refuse to work with them, upon which they will leave. b. Offer an alliance to find Thomas and defeat the demons. c. Attack and kill them.a. Accept the demon's offer. If the Howe soldiers are still alive, the player will have to fight and kill them, after which they can either let the demon go or kill it. b. Refuse and attack. If you kill Thomas before the Desire Demon, he dies. If you kill the Desire Demon before Thomas, he snaps out of his stupor and stops fighting. The player can then either talk to him or immediately execute him, which causes the Howe soldiers to attack. If the player chooses to talk, Thomas will recognise them, as either a Grey Warden or a Cousland, and attack. If the soldiers are alive, they are ordered to attack, but they refuse, having grown tired of Thomas's poor leadership and performance. If the player is not a Human Noble, or if a Human Noble player did not retrieve them during the beginning, Thomas will be armed with the Cousland Family Shield and Longsword. Otherwise, he will fight with a standard longsword and Howe buckler. If the Howe soldiers are still alive: a. If the player is not a Human Noble, they will leave unless attacked. b. If the player is a Human Noble, they will attack ("orders are orders", they say) unless persuaded, whereupon they will leave instead. Ultimately, the player will be unable to fix the Veil - if the player is a mage, a dialogue option will come up saying you aren't skilled enough to do so. If Morrigan and/or Wynne are in the party, they will mention that they do not have the necessary skills (3). Regardless, with the bulk of the demons dead and people more likely to avoid the castle now, the threat is contained. If the player refused to ally with the surviving Howe soldiers, they will find them standing over the servant's body and have to fight and kill them. Otherwise, the servant will thank you and offer a small reward before leaving. The player can then either: a. Accept the reward and let them go. b. Refuse the reward and let them go. c. Try to extort them for more. d. Kill them. a. If the quest was not completed, many men would be lost in the process. Word of the Warden's refusal to help reached the people, who subsequently grew cold towards the Grey Wardens. b. If the quest was completed with the demon and Thomas slain, the retaking is far easier, and the people of Highever are grateful towards the Grey Wardens for their help. If the Howe soldiers helped and are still alive, some join mercenary bands while others surrender themselves to Fergus's judgement. c. If the quest was completed with the demon set free, rumours of Thomas Howe's fate spring up until a decayed body with his likeness is found. 1: I would have used Ser Gilmore, but his last appearance in the Human Noble origin is holding the front gate with a few wounded soldiers against the bulk of Howe's army. And if he didn't die there, a cutscene in Fort Drakon shows a dead body with an eerie resemblance to him.2: In-game, Thomas is said to be killed fighting the darkspawn.3: At least, I believe this to be the case, otherwise in Soldier's Peak, there would be no need to work with either Avernus or Sophia Dryden.
I was recently replaying DAO(like a completely normal person in 2023) and got to the Cult of Andraste— I always assumed they were just fanatics and killed them, but I decided to see what siding with them was like. Knowing what we know about Flemeth, and Dragons, I think they actually might be on to something. What we know —— The cultist state the Dragon is A form of Andraste— The dragon doesn’t attack them. It will get right in their face and they simply bow and it moves on. —Flemeth is Mythal(was?) — Dragons were the Form the Elven Gods took — Flemeth is responsible/ working to return the Dragons— Dragons color is that same Flemeth purple— I’m a nerdSaw something about Andraste and Flemeths/ Mythals possible connection the other day and it just all collided in my head while playing
I spent an unreasonable amount of time trying to get Dragon Age: Origins (Ultimate Edition) working with all of its DLC. Those who frequent this sub probably know that EA discontinued server support for Origins some time ago, but that includes the ability to sync all but the 'main' DLCs (Awakening and the other campaigns). All of the individual items are unavailable through this model. If you can find a source for the original .dazip files that enable these DLCs (things like the Wicked Oath ring and many other individual items) you can install them manually. But I couldn't find one.Fortunately, our good friends at GOG have built a version of Dragon Age: Origins that includes ALL the DLCs, as well as the 2GB memory fix that leads to crashes, and it works well. Just a friendly PSA if, like me, you felt the desire to play through the original game that started this excellent franchise in advance of the fourth entry next year.
It's a simple question, who are the most overrated or underrated characters in the series? Feel free to share your thoughts and candidates. FYI, ''overrated'' =/= bad. For underrated, Loghain Mac Tir is my pick. He was a goddamn war hero and a folk legend. He was a trusted general in Fereldan Rebellion and a key figure for Fereldan independence. After the war; he aided King Maric in state affairs, made Gwaren prosper, married his daughter Anora to Cailan for stability and when the Blight started, he raised his banners against Urthemiel. He also has the most charismatic name in the entire series: Loghain, son-of-the-land. But because of Ostagar, he's known as ''Willem Dafoe as traitor'' to most fans. It ain't fair.King Cailan is also underrated in my opinion. He marched against Darkspawn despite knowing he's outnumbered and the battle will be lost. He cared for his men, were close to them and while knowing he will most likely die, Cailan acted overconfidently in Ostagar to inspire his forces. He was also planning to merge Orlesian and Fereldan crowns by marrying Empress Celene, a brilliant move to achieve permanent peace. He was kind, gentle and caring. He knew Alistair's true identity and held him in high regard. Cailan was the king Ferelden deserved. For overrated, I'll go with Alistair. Don't get me wrong, I like Alistair. I really do. But I think he's a bit overappriciated. I thought ''childish and immature virgin sidekick'' trend died with Batman & Robin but I was wrong. Everyone loves Alistair to the death and he is regarded as the greatest companion of all - time. I dunno, dude literally spends the entire game tagging along with the Warden and becomes King in the end. (Drunk Alistair rulez, heh) No character growth, no key moments, just absolute goofiness. His only notable accomplishment for me was getting obliterated by Morrigan. So, what's your take?HONOURABLE MENTIONSOverrated: BrialaOverrated: Fenris. ''Ex-slave turned vengeful assassin arc'' sucks imo.Overrated: Anders. I mean, how could someone love him? He was decent in Awakening, yet two years of possesion turned him into terrorist bomber.Overrated: Sandal. ''Enchantment'' huh? Very funny.Overrated: Arl Teagan. You talk too much.Overrated: ZevranUnderrated: Grand Duke GaspardUnderrated: Lord Otranto of AntivaUnderrated: BethanyUnderrated: Male HawkeUnderrated: Sera. (Calls her immature and childish and Googles to search 'Alistair fan art')Underrated: Sebastian. He's not boring, at least not that much.Underrated: VivienneUnderrated: SigrunUnderrated: NathanielUnderrated: Mommy WynneUnderrated: Ser Ruth
so. after 3 days of non-stop playing dai, i finally played it through fully for the first time (the first time i played it i didnt speak english and just clicked through dialogues without knowing anything lol) AND LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING ABOUT THAT UGLY ELF. This game ??? made me slowly fall in love with him. i wanted to romance iron bull or cullen but... he was always in my party and i LITERALLY FELL IN LOVE WITH HIS INSIGHTS AND KNOWLEDGE. BOYYYY i shouldn't have started the game without reading up on it because you all knew how it ends and didnt send me some telepathic waves on telling me NOT to do it. rn im sitting on my floor ugly crying and listening to sad music to ease the pain.anyways, my question is: how do you feel about dreadwolf? because he is still the loml and im so hurt over him that making a whole game about probably killing him and not being able to kiss him will break me more and im not sure i can do it. thoughts?
Apart of my color splash series. Which Dragon Age character should I do next?
I've played mostly mages and now I'm finishing up a trilogy run as a dual dagger rogue in the three games and enjoyed both immensely. I've been taking Sera out as a companion in Inquisition and I've taken to control her character a lot (which I almost never do) and I'm really liking how it feels to play as her tempest archer. It kinda made me curious to try out archer myself throughout the games, so wondering about your experiences.
Some people are speculating it has been moved because new information about the game will be released at EA's Q4 Investors meeting on May 9th.I'm not convinced, but the timing is interesting.Source: https://twitter.com/Hrungry/status/1648124923859304454?s=19
