Gateways is a clever mix of portal and the Swapper, an excellent puzzle game with a variety of mechanics, which a high-quality level design exploits with great ingenuity. Ed, a scientist of genius, wakes up one day in his laboratory to realize that he is locked in. He then decided to go to the central console, but had to recover several devices from his design, otherwise he would not be able to cross certain rooms. The objective is therefore to rake this labyrinthine complex, in search of these strange inventions: devices producing portals with various effects, which are five. Each one allows to create two, in the way of a portal. However, it will not be possible to place them on certain surfaces or use two different devices simultaneously. Finally, not until you have got hold of the last of these devices. Until then, nothing very surprising. Moreover, depending on the model used, the order in which these portals are borrowed will have a variable result and therefore a paramount importance. The first of these devices-gateway gun-acts exactly like that of Portal: one crosses a portal, then one emerges by the other. The second-resizing gun-makes the character grow or shrink, depending on which one enters first. The third-rotation gun-allows to somehow rotate the screen, changing our severity. The fourth-time travel gun-will give us the power to go back in time, to a certain limit. As we recover these devices then unlock new areas. To reach them, we will have to sneak into a conduit whose access was previously forbidden to us. Or walk on the walls, on the ceiling. Create duplicates by returning to the past, to activate several mechanisms simultaneously, such as pressing a button or deriving a laser beam. By the way, any contact with one of these clones interrupces the cycle! In short, the game is full of puzzles, very well designed, mostly accessible, with interactions between the different powers. In this labyrinthine complex-the map is of great help, do not neglect it-, we can also find powerup of all kinds: some improve the health, the height of the jump, others allow to increase the number of doubles that one can meet at the screen or the duration of the trip over time. Even at a high price-if €5 is a lot-so don't hesitate for a second: gateways is a real gem! Verdict: 5/5-the faultless, to buy the eyes closed! Did you like this evaluation?
