Why did Voldemort not use other methods to escape death given how afraid of it he was?
Underrated moment: Harry's fear in COS and Jacob Kowalski
" What wouldn’t he give now for a message from Hogwarts? From any witch or wizard? He’d almost be glad of a sight of his arch-enemy, Draco Malfoy, just to be sure it hadn’t all been a dream ..." - COS, The Worst Birthday.I remember simply skimming through this part in COS because I really wanted Harry to be saved from the Dursleys but re-reading this part made me realise just how emotional and poignant this moment is. I can totally relate to Harry's fear of Hogwarts being just a dream. Having escape his harsh reality by going to a magical world, the thought of it not being real can be too much to bear. My brain brings up images of Boo when she opens the closet to find out that Sully is gone or in CS Lewis, when the kids have to go back to normal lives after the events of TLTWATW.In the HP universe, I get reminded too of Jacob who as an ordinary Muggle was ordered to lose his memories of the magical world. Although not similar to Harry, both individuals would rather be part of the magical world than spending a second in their cruel Muggle environment.
Scabbers
I don’t want to give him credit but he bit goyle when Malloy talked bad about Harry’s parents.
Hot take with the new HBO series in the works
Even though she was already in Harry Potter, I think Fiona Shaw (aunt Petuina) would would make a fantastic Mcgonagall. I know it would be jarring for a lot of people associating her with being frankly a terrible person, but her performance in Andor kind of sold me on the idea of her as Mcgonagall. Am I alone in this, or is this like a common consensus now
Rereading the series & I forgot about this joke🤭
“Oh Professor, look! I think I’ve got an unaspected planet! Oooh, which one’s that, Professor?” “It is Uranus, my dead,” said Professor Trelawney, peering down at the chart. “Can I have a look at Uranus too, Lavender?” said Ron. Goblet of Fire, page 201.
Was there a reason Professor Binns never made it to the movies?
I've always thought that character punched above his weight when it comes to adding charm to the school and world-building. The idea that he just left his body behind and kept on teaching always struck me as funny.I understand why they had to cut him and a lot of other characters from the movies for time, but he doesn't even get a brief non-speaking establishing shot or anything, meanwhile we spend what feels like 20 minutes of precious screen time watching Harry fly around on Buckbeak.
How does a family get its house elf?
So we know of several instances where house elves serve a family for generations but we never see more than one elf per family so I'm wondering why?Kreacher's mother worked for the Blacks but did his father? Does he have any siblings or children? Do little house elf families live alongside the wizard families or are the elf children sold to other families? Then what of the parents? Do they live together and it is coincidence that the elves we "meet" are always alone or do the owners meet to breed them like they would with horses?
Most hated line in the Harry Potter series?
Saw this on the Marvel sub. Books or movies!
The fish story
People might bash on HBP for the story and additional changes that defied the logic in the books, but the standout story is the fish story that Slughorn tells Harry. For me it's the greatest reminder outside of the letter Harry reads in the seventh book, of the woman Lily Evans was. All throughout the book, Harry's not told much about his mother, having been told more about his father. Until the fifth book, when he sees his mother in person in Snape's memory. And the next year Slughorn keeps talking of Lily's brilliance, but until this story, you don't know how much of a great woman she is. The fact that Slughorn's story simultaneously says everything about Lily's brilliance, love and bravery all in one story is just beautiful. I personally find the Felix Felicis scene from the movie the far superior one. Thoughts?
Dumbledore could have taught Harry more advanced magic. Was this a narrative decision or is there a more nuanced reason?
Funniest line from book 1
"Jiggery pokery! Hocus pocus! Squiggly wiggly!", said Harry, to frighten his cousin Dudley. "Mom, Mom, he's doing it!", yelled Dudley. (Not an exact quote)Cracked me up...
Imo the only character worse then umbridge
Fenrir greyback. Not only does he target children in the hopes to build a werewolf army.He eats people not while a wolf.
