Hungry Hoppity VR
About
Grab your Google Cardboard and get ready to hop it!
You are a hungry rabbit. Find some green grass and sate that first need. Watch out for brown grass, that's not good for you. But how to get there? Bounce your legs -- you're a rabbit! (yes, I really mean you, human, must bounce your legs!) And how to eat? (really, you humans are so slow!) Position yourself near the tasty tufts and look down at them! But WATCH OUT! While you're looking down, predators might be looking at you... and making their succulent plans! And while you're looking down, you can't look out! If they chase you, scamper for your warren in the hill under the tree! Oh, also wabbits don't wike water. (a finished version would see them d... dr... dripping wet).
How your submission matches the theme
Controlled with only movement of the phone: looking around steers, bouncing your knees moves, bouncing larger jumps, looking down at tufts of grass eats them but blocks your potentially seeing predators (which I didn't manage to add to the game). I also contemplated another verb that rabbits are renowned for... though as a slightly less PG game! ;-)
Attribution and assets
With the game design in mind, I chose to leverage more assets than in a make-it-all-yourself jam. Everything not listed here (e.g. floor model, code, shaders) is my own work ... but you gotta cut corners somewhere, eh.
Unity engine 5.6.2 (I lost a lot of time through 2017.01 incompatibility with Cardboard :-( )

Tech support
You need Google Cardboard or other similar mobile VR headset. I would consider a non-VR version and did spend a chunk of jam time working on a desktop version but decided to focus on the core VR vision. I've not built it with GearVR nor DayDream compatibility since I have neither to test. They might work?
The game was developed on a Samsung Galaxy S7. I'd hope any reasonably recent high-ish end mobile will run the game well.
Sometimes after first being installed, the game will crash on loading. Please retry it -- it usually works that second time. Hey, it's a jam game!
EDIT: Added a link to private 'alpha' build on Google Play after the jam -- it's the same build. I figured 'alpha' since it's not really finished ... again, it is the build from the jam!
EDIT 2017/07/23: Post-jam build added. Spatialized audio, 1'st predator = actual lose condition! woo
Lastly
I welcome any feedback or thoughts (below or on Twitter). I'm not sure whether I'll take this further. I have 2 projects in development as a 1-man Indie Dev Dad (I'm a full-time Dad) already so unless this gets rave reviews, I'll probably keep this as a happy memory :)
Thanks for playing my game!
