I Am Caligula reviews

"I Am Caligula" is a passable RPG.
♦ The fights are pretty basic.
 ♦ The music's good.
♦ The story could have been great, but the characters are underdeveloped and it doesn't take itself seriously. Rather than being an interesting and educational game about the life of the Roman emperor Caligula, we have a kind of comedy-parody
♦ The game is also very short. You can finish it in less than two hours.
♦ There are also plenty of places (villages) to explore, but not used in the main quest.
♦ The incest theme is very present. It fits with Caligula, but still...
NOPE, skip.

Español: I don't usually make reviews of short games such as I Am Caligula, but sometimes I make an exception. This game called my attention due to the engine it works with (RPG Maker VX Ace, the one I'M using myself to create my game). I tracked it closely and got it in its release date so as to see how it ended up. Let's get straight to the point. I Am Caligula is a straightforward game about the Roman Emperor Caligula (did you expect Sherlock? Zombies?) And his story, relatives, politics... The word to define this game is "Romans". The RPG system is OK, but it has a snag: the progress curve. At the beginning of the game you are not given any info about battles, companions, skills or objects. Nevertheless, you can learn how to use it very quickly, it's not extremely difficult. The script sequences and maps are decent. It's amusing to travel through the maps searching for loot. This game's general characteristic is that of an average RPG with no innovation neither faults. It's based on exploration, combat and history. The game lasts around 2 hours including a deep exploration of the map. What I found very enjoyable was that even having its basis on a real story, it has many humorous hints (pizza in the Roman Empire!) and its dialogues are fantastic. What I didn't like is that this game has no support from SteamWork. It lacks achievements or device for direct screenshots, or cards and wallpapers, something that would do much for it, since its art is pretty good. Positive points::-It's a short yet funny game; Pretty entertaining and has a good ending. -The levelling design is very intuitive. -You get to learn a lot about History! Negative points:-The difficulty curve is irregular and the game lacks tutorials. -It lacks content. Resume: I Am Caligula is a short and enjoyable game with a few playable hours. It's worth 1 euro. The reason why I didn't punctuate it 10/10 is the lack of SteamWork content, I'd like it to have achievements and wallpapers, at least. However, it's worth the try. Spanish: I Don't usually do reviews of games as small as I Am Caligula but every now and then I make an exception. This game caught my attention due to the engine that uses, RPG Maker VX Ace, the same as I'm using to create a game currently. I followed the track up close and caught him out to see where the thing ended. I'm Not going to walk around with a lot of rodeo. I Am Caligula is a direct game, it is about the life of the Roman Emperor Caligula (what did you expect, Sherlock? A B-series movie with Zombies?... SMARTS) and its history, close relations, politics... The word that defines it is "Romans" The RPG system is well-carried with a single stick, the progression curve. At the beginning of the game they teach you almost nothing of the fighting and they release you with four members and a number of powers/items that you do not know how to use. But Little by little you're doing the system and as you go it becomes easier, not a big challenge. Script sequences and maps are decent, it's fun to walk around the maps and search for loot. His bet is entirely with that of an RPG without innovating but also without failing in its bases. Exploration, combat, history. All in one. The duration of the title rounds the 2 hours if you go exploring and watching everything. Something that if I liked is that despite trying a real story is allowed touches of humor (Which have pizza in the age of the Romans!) and some dialogues are great. The Part I liked The least is that it has nothing support SteamWork. It has No achievements or support for catches. Neither has letters or funds, something that would sit great because his drawings are quite good. Positive Points:-Short but nice Game, it doesn't leave a bad feeling after completing it. -Level design is intuitive. -Only lacks the quick time events of the RISE and I think I'm really learning history! Negative Points:-The difficulty curve, totally irregular and there are hardly tutorials. -Lack of content. Summary: I am Caligula is a short and entertaining game that will give you a few hours of play. For €1 It's worth it. The only drawback that removes me from giving you a 10/10 is the lack of steamwork content, I would like to have achievements and funds. Still, it's a good bet.
