While not "100% not recommended" (it's more like a meh), after several playthroughs I feel like the cons of this game outweighs the pros. The story is a-ok, I was expecting a stereotypical, noir 20s-40s setting but the story is somehow definitely taking place in the present, which was a little dissapointing (and felt out of place). Another thing I didn't quite like was the game's writing. It's kind of odd, since it's not directed at you, that is, the story is being told as if a third person is narrating it to you, not as if you (the player) are the protagonist of it.
My last (and biggest) complain with the game, though, is that it just assumes a lot of things than shouldn't be assumed, like (this is not really a spoiler, it's more like a warning, but...)
if you get married into a heterosexual relationship you (or your wife) will get pregnant and have at least one child, no matter if you want it or not. This is an example of something that is painfully assumed and shouldn't, since it's pretty obvious that not all married couples want to have children.
And depending on who you are roleplaying it can greatly affect immersion, like it happened to me. Given that these type of games' key (and only) mechanic is choosing "your own path" something like this is a pretty big flaw and breaks immersion. Writers of these types of games should always try to take for granted as little as possible, I know this is not always a viable option, but in an example like the above it's obvious this basic principle was not taken into consideration. Always ask the player what he/she wants to do.

I am mixed on this game... My first run was great, I saw a multitude of choices with many consequences, until I came to the end, which happened suddenly without warning. I was a little disappointed but I restarted in several other run to explore the other options, and there big disillusionment, the events are fixed in the marble, no way to avoid them. (eg: impossible to avoid ending up in jail towards the middle of the game...)
In short, worse than a game where we know that our choices have no big influence, a game that gives great difficulty to give an illusion of choice, these only influencing the outcome of each event, not at all the story, except the 2-3 pages of end... (The choice to make politics for example is a big joke, it gives one or two alternative choices during the story, but it does not change anything about its unfolding. Just in the end, suddenly, you can try to become a Senator. In short, it exists only to say that there is a link to the policy and give an end ENB more (fast again)).
Second big disappointment: many endings are very difficult to obtain, impossible to pick up very positive ends without planning runs in detail, which is not particularly simpa when the game time until the end presents no surprise, and that the purposes are in any case shipped.
In short, in the end this game is still simpa, the first run is very cool when you discover, I'm just disappointed that this is not the Pearl I hoped.
