Mordheim: City of the Damned reviews

Early Access Review This adaptation of the cult fantasy table-top game is not a literal one, but an adaptation true to the game. What you can expect is the same grim and dark fantasy background, a great tactical game as the original and even more RPG depth (more stats, more skills, enchantments, etc.). As a Mordheim-fan, I've been following and playing this game since EA day 1 and with the latest progression update it took the game to a new level. Tactically and regarding the games' depth and polish the last update made the game a totally new experience. Sure, the balancing of the single player missions and a few tweaks and adjustments here and there are still needed, optimization will also have to be done (that's last to come). But after all this has been finished, I'd expect the full release of the game around End November/beginning of December 2015. What you will get: A dark and challenging RPG/strategy game, a great community (e.g. tournaments and leagues organised by the already well-established Gentlemen of Mordheim), very responsive and open devs that will hopefully be able to make lots of DLCs with the community supporting them and giving feedback (was a great EA experience btw - thanks devs! - never done that before, but this was awesome). I'd definitely recommend buying this game now, however. You'll get the EA discount and you can already get a grip at the game's core mechanics that won't be changing anymore. So far progression and permadeath (yes permanent death of your units - although quite seldom - can happen!) only applies to the single player campaign so quite safe grounds still, but around End of October, when the next update hits, you want to be prepared for some PvP action with progression and permadeath in!

The last Time I connected my PC was about 21 Years ago. Back then the Game was Called Doom 2 and I absolutely had to play the last Level without Cheats ... Welcome 2016; Welcome to Mordheim! An incredibly intense Game pleasure. I've been rumbling around for the Title since Release, but didn't want to access the propagated Level of difficulty. Boredom and a nostalgic tabletop warhammer phase (40k, Gothic and Necromunda in my case) made me add it to my Library. In case of Need, it could have been asked for n Refund. ... Refund??? Never!!! I was surprised by one of my personally best Games ever. In addition to Xcom, Dishonered, Fallout and Elder scrolls, Mordheim is now in my Top five! Have now played for almost 50 Hours; Still my first warband, Reikländer Mercenaries (Standard People; there are 3 other "Breeds"), am from lvl about 7/10 and have not even played a Campaign mission, only "Sidequests." The Level Of difficulty is really stark! Especially at the Beginning is difficult, but over Time you develop strategies that ensure that you at least survive. And from the Midlvl Area it becomes a bit easier. The Possibility of permanent Death (nix Backup or quickload) and permanent Injuries (internal Injuries, Amputations, mental Illness, etc.) create a strong Connection to the Figures and contribute a lot to the Atmosphere of the Game. Each Mission risks losing an important Warrior. That's tough, but it's a lot of Fun. Like Bolle, you are happy about a narrow and actually insignificant Victory, or about the warrior being knocked out in Battle retaining his Arms and Mind and wearing only n few blue Spots of it. If you then defeat the Opponent in a sharp Manner without any losses of your Own, has achieved all The Bonus goals and has also drawn Neat Loot from the Mission, then the n feeling is like Christmas and Birthday together. And that's quite possible with Skill and some Thought! Verdict: I'm thrilled and love it! (Tip at Frustration: Read FAQs and community guides to better understand the underlying Game Mechanics. It is quite mental to endure and understandable that with 95% Strike Chance you hit side by it 4 times in a row, when you know that the Target has an Evasive Chance Of 80%. ;-) )
