the bar under your health shows your temperature. 

shooting the gun heats you up and the hotter you are, the more damage your sword deals. 

if you overheat, you will take some damage and lose most of your abilities for a while.

 hitting enemies with the sword cools you down, if you're cold enough, you can recover health

the amonguses are harmless, simple minded creatures, but your character is allergic. touching them will deal damage
