Early Access Review The Steam Award I want to write a Review. And if: Then for Onward! :-)
Onward was far from on my Wish list after Buying my Oculus Rift.
The Graphic did not look soo Inviting in various Videos or Screenshots.
Then deterred me, that after the virtual Death you have to wait until the End of the Lap (I never liked that). And the repeatedly mentioned Comparison to Arma also held me off.
Because I haven't gotten warm with Arma so far, unfortunately.
In the Summer I struck; And since then I play Onward weekly!
And that's in a German VR community.
For Onward: The Graphics are even better than previously thought. In VR, the Graphics look pretty neat.
The Weapons even look fantastic. Look very real. Only the light Weight of the touch controllers tells me that I don't hold a real Weapon in my Hand:-)
The Handling of Weapons, The Haptics, The Reloading and the handling of the Weapons are very good and very realistic. The Sound of the Weapons is also very realistic.
In General, Onward relies on Realism. Onward doesn't need a hardcore mode. This Game is Hardcore!
If you get hit in the Head, you're gone immediately. If one is shot at the Body, Legs, arms only, one becomes black in front of One. If you have been shot violently, you can no longer move. Then a Teammate has to rush in and get you back on your Feet with a Syringe. You can also supply yourself with the Syringe.
But not if you got knocked out. One can then only call for his Teammates, and hope that one comes. If the Opponent hears your calls for help, he will give you the Rest.
And this Realism; That's also more the Comparison to Arma. Arma is also a Simulation with a very high Degree of Realism.
From the Maps, there is no Comparison to Arma. At least of the Size. And that's good with only a maximum of 10 Players per Server.
Unfortunately, there are not very many Maps yet. But among the existing Maps, there are already some exceptionally good Maps. There are also Maps that are played in the dark. Night Vision, & it will be green and bright:-)
The arsenal Of Weapons in Onward is quite neat. In the Server Lobby, you can select your Setup before each Round and edit multiple Setups. And that will remain the case until you change it again.
To grant the Balance, there is a maximum Number of Points that must not be exceeded.
Example: If you want To equip a Silencer, you will end up missing Points for a Hand Grenade.
Waiting until the end of the lap after the Premature Death is not so o bad. If I leave early, I can not only watch the still living Teammates and follow where they are on the road; But talk to all the other virtually fallen Players.
And since we had a Lot of Fun:-)
As soon as the next Round starts, you can only talk to your team members on the Map. But only if you are still close. Otherwise, you can use the Radio to communicate with your Team.
But watch out! If the Enemy is Nearby you can betray yourself by Radio Messages (Radio Sounds) or Conversations:-) That alone makes Onward very interesting. Something like that is only available in VR. (No Teamspeak is used. Voice only InGame!)
So, for me, Onward is the VR game of the Year.
The Trigger for The purchase of the Oculus Rift plus Touch controllers was a Youtube video about "Arizona Sunshine" (VR game), which you can shoot and hit in VR with your arm outstretched and hand Alignment via real Kimme & Grain.
This is a man's dream come true:-)
And that's exactly how it works in Onward, too.
This is no longer comparable to Shooters on The Monitor. This is VR!
PS: For those who like to play Paintball: Buy a Rift or Vive and Onward! This is the Replacement or training Program for Paintball par excellence.
Swap bruises on the Body for Imprints of a VR glasses on The Face:-)
