PAC-MAN Championship Edition DX+ reviews

PAC-man Championship Edition DX + is a monument, a videogame masterpiece, in my opinion from far away the best play with PAC-man (and, given the failure of PAC-man CE 2, it may last for a long time). PAC-man CE DX + is the sequel to PAC-man Championship Edition, which is available on steam only through the PAC-man Museum (this is the only good point in this collection): in 2007, PAC-man CE had the intelligence to return to the basics of the first PAC-man while modernizing them, with less survival-oriented gameplay and resting rather on the score obtained in a limited time. The game also used the 16/9 format of the screen to cut the maze into two and make the maze evolve, each half of the maze reactualizing with a new path after being emptied of its lozenges. Despite the identical fundamentals of the original arcade game, PAC-man CE was thus much more nervous and more complex than the old classic (maximizing its score is almost of the puzzle game), all decorated with a "neo-retro" presentation of the most good effect. Three years later PAC-man CE DX + seems to offer the same type of experience, but the game is actually much more innovative than the entire PAC-man games that preceded it. Now, in addition to the traditional ghosts wandering through the maze, ghosts are "asleep", forming part of the lozenges of each half of the maze. When we close these ghosts, they wake up and join a "train" of ghosts that pursues us, this train can reach an important length, much like the tail of the snake in Snake or Nibbler. When you eat a super PAC-gum, you can eat as a result all these ghosts, achieving a very important score at one time. The game exploits these principles perfectly, the level design of the maze halves tracing a "path" allowing to collect in a single path all the pads and dormant ghosts, but the game can reach crazy speeds (each Phantom eaten, speed increases) and it is always necessary to avoid stray ghosts, so we must remain able to improvise well. To adapt to the new density of ghosts and the speed of the game, an idle effect is added when one is about to enter a ghost, and we can also collect bombs, which once activated will send the ghosts that Chase us in their central box. All this is perfectly balanced and creates very nerve and exciting parts, much more than PAC-man what seems slow and flat to compare (while it is excellent). In addition to this, the game offers a lot of content: eight different types of labyrinths (plus four types in the DLC bundle), many alternative graphic styles as well as varied musics, and various modes with different lenses (achieve the most great score possible, clean a series of labyrinths halves as soon as possible, eat the most ghosts as a result, etc.). Each of the modes in each of the labyrinths has its own scoreboard online, with an awesome scoring system because very simple and very readable: we get an ' S ' if one is in the best 5%, an ' a ' in the best 20%, a ' B ' in the best 40% Etc. I bought PAC-man CE DX + from its initial release on Xbox 360 in 2010, taking an incredible pleasure in picking up the ' S ' note in absolutely all modes of all labyrinths, and years later, I had the same pleasure even more to regain all my ' S ' Dan s steam version. I recommend it therefore of course, it is an indispensable purchase for anyone who loves arcade games.
