Phantasmagoria reviews

I write a Retroeview from my Recollection of this:) I still have Phantasmagoria as a 7 CD version in the Closet. Just like the second Part. Unfortunately, Steam does not support the German version either on the first or second Parts. Too bad, because there are. Perhaps these May still follow suit-but my Guess Is that these are probably licensing problems and probably will not comply with Them. Now to the Game itself. Herrje, Eye Cancer;-) In a Contemporary way, things can be done differently. But OK, it's just a Classic like it used to be and not an HD Remaster/remake whatever. Actually, it's a great pity because the Material, re-sampled would be perfectly suitable for an FMV Adventure. Maybe this will even come at some point (but I never suspect Phantasmagoria/FMV Adventures has always been more of a Niche-even in 1995!) The Story is quite well told and it is quite Fun to wander through the old House to explore all the Evil there. However, the Story was trash at that time and I think today it seems much trashier. There's even a Hintkeeper. Actually, it is not necessary, because the Game is very simple but if you don't get on, you can just ask the good Skull. He can be quite black-humoured. Sometimes you press for this Alone. Reminds something Of the Cryptkeeper from Stories from the Tomb! The Core were, however, and still are the few more or less hearty Splatter Inserts that, as a young Guy, could shock me well once. (At least in the End, if you get it wrong really ...) I believe these bloody Insoles work today because of HD Television and quite better Effects including corresponding Filmen/series and Games, which look better than Phantasmagoria rendered in graphics today, just not as good as they once did. With a better Resolution or in than HD Remake, it would certainly look a markedly different way. What remains is an immense Retrofeeling. This is Recommended to all those who once did not have the Opportunity to play the Title but always wanted to, to all those who love Trash or who would like to experience the old, crazy Games again (anew). Everyone else ..? Fingers off;-) I wouldn't have added it to my Bib For the Steam original Price. But there was at the Humble Bundle and that's when I struck for narrow Money. Will I play through it again on Steam? I rather suspect not. On my 27s it looks bad, let's say bad;-)

«Phantasmagoria» is a Game of the last Millennium. Released in 1995, it is a Point & Click & Wait adventure, which I really liked at the time. Not necessarily because of the Story, but because real Actors portrayed the Characters. This was revolutionary, cool at the time and it was almost believed that this could become Standard in the future (it went on a few Months, then the Trend was already over again). I Also found Victoria Morsell, the Main Character's actress, really sniffy and definitely more talented than the other Lay actors used for productions at the time. The legendary Sierra studio didn't let itself be lumped and released the Ghost Story, written by the equally legendary Roberta Williams, on seven CD Roms. «Phantasmagoria» even won Best Game at Cannes. Well then, I give the Title a Recommendation, but urge caution, because my Recommendation is based solely on nostalgic Reasons and is aimed only at the older Gamers among you. Let's face it, «Phantasmagoria» has aged extremely badly. The Game graphics are roughly pixelated and the Films with the Actors are fuzzy and full Of Artifacts. The game Can no longer keep up with the current Viewing habits. As a result, the Brutality and laughable Almost nude Scene for a Game aged 18 and over seems like a Joke. The Story is still quite okay. Without giving away major Spoilers, it's about a Demon and Exploring an old Mansion with its Secrets. Within 4 to 6 Hours you are already nearing the End. The Puzzles are neither particularly difficult nor outlandish. If you still have Problems, just ask the Hint Keeper For a Tip. What annoys with time are the numerous Mostly pointless Single-game films of the Brand I Click-one-comb and The-playfigure-see-see-through hair. Why I'm the Game as a Point & Click & wait adventure, because the Main Character always has to go back to the exact same Starting position with every Move before it goes on. Technically, that makes Sense, annoying it is anyway. Apart from the fact that it seems completely unnatural. Verdict: Only for adventure Veterans who had a Heart for Tex Murphy, Gabriel Knight and Titles like «Ripper» at the time, or for Gamers who want to use the Steam repayment option to enjoy themselves for two Hours. What was considered topmodern and State-of-the-Art in the 90s only makes you smile today. With that In mind: Have fun!
