quirkat
About
A game of ancient Egyptian origin, quirkat has been called the predecessor of the game checkers. Pieces may move one square at a time in any direction provided that the adjacent square is unoccupied. A piece may also jump an opponents piece if the square opposite the opponents piece (the landing square) is unoccupied. Pieces that have been jumped are removed from the board. Multiple jumps in one turn are possible and because of the following rule, are required to be taken.
This particular version of the game incorporates a rule introduced by the French that make it a requirement to take an opponents piece whenever possible.
A player wins when all of the opponents pieces have been removed from the board.
