"Racing with techno music in an old 2D arcade style."
Introduction
If you like music and a good race and cars, this is your game. Race.a.bit reminds me the old arcade games, 2D racing and that funny music. But here we have great music! All tracks with that retro 8-bit style wich I love, that techno music so great for the racing. And the sound of the engine! I have to warn you, this is an addictive game.
Gameplay
There are a lot of things to tell about this game. First which I found a little bit confusing were the controls. I could change it of course, but if you use a keyboard you will have to practise a lot to avoid crashing everything. Then, after you pass some tracks things get a little more complicated but of course, try the easier ones for practising. Something tells me I should need those old arcade consoles to play this game.
You have several tracks, the official ones, also, you can create your own track and upload it to the server, previous registration. Of course, you can play offline with the official tracks you have. I tried some of the fan made tracks and some of them are really funny, filled with obstacles.
Ah, you can drift, and hear the sound. That's really nice. A lot of things for a 2D game wich is great.
Challenge mode! Beat another enemy, I said... enemy? I meant player in a race. There's a "ghost" system, you can follow the other player's routine and try to improve his time. You will earn medals and complete tasks will give you the chance of know more official tracks. Of course, you can beat your own time. As an extra, you can add the enemies, I mean the "buddies" in a list and follow them or being followed just for challenge reasons in future.
There are several cars to pick, everyone with different options. From F1 to buggies. As you advance in medals, I mean in time you'll find new ones.
The best here is the track editor. You can do a lot of things with it! As an example just check the fan-made creations or try the creator to make a new track. In my opinion, comparing with other games, it's very complete and you can create a lot of things.
Visuals are good. very retro style with more colors of course but I I think it's very nice the art design of the game.
Pros
+ Great music!
+ The track creator
+ Challenges
+ Retro visual style
+ different cars
Cons
- Some issue with controls in keyboard
- Lack of local multiplayer, or a multiplayer.
Conclusion
I really liked the game. Each track is very frustrating sometimes until you get used to it. In fact is a funny game, pity it doesn't have a multiplayer mode or a local one, that would be a plus.
