Early access review a very promising game!
Rencounter is an RPG/rogue like turn-by-turn freshly landed on steam and developed with unity. The game is fairly simple, you are a man who wakes up without explanations in a Dungeon and who has to make his way to the exit thanks to the sword he found when he woke up. On your way you meet some rare allies that will have to protect in order to create a team strong enough and versatile to survive what awaits you.
By the time I write this evaluation early access is only two weeks old but I must say that I already have a lot of fun on this game! Even though visually some part of the Visual interface like the menus where the action buttons are very simple to see a bit rude, the title already proves to be pleasant and perfectly playable as a whole.
The thing to know about this game is that it is really difficult and will ask you to be careful and anticipate at best each of the actions of the enemy, but even if advancing in the game is not easy thing and that have died quite often (especially at the beginning of the game) the TI is not necessarily abusive, because it is part of the challenge and somewhere in the interest of the game. Every action counts, every error is fatal. The fights thus oscillate between the frustrating and the exciting, some encounters are delicate and succeed in getting rid of it gives a certain pleasure. Add to that the rogue-like side that transforms each part into a different and unique adventure and you get a really nice game.
There are also many good ideas and small details that I found very interesting. The first is simply the fact that one can select the part of the body that one wishes to attack (head, torso, arms, leg) and that this to consequences (loss of precision, impossibility to flee) the other thing is also the displacement because indeed here there are several ways to do: you can move normally, run, or backward (in order to remain in front of the enemy). There is also a craft system or a level of hunger, in short a lot of little things that are not present in all the games of the genre and it's nice to see them here.
For the moment the game for me is a stroke of heart, I find it simply excellent. However there are some little things that annoy, the first being the total absence of narration what I do not understand because honestly some small lines of text to explain the background would have been welcome. The other black point of the game is the total absence of tutorial, then certainly the mechanics of gameplay are in no way complicated to understand but given the difficulty of the game, receive a little help when you start the adventure seems to me more than necessary.
In short as far as I am concerned I highly recommend this game if you are a fan of the genre, although it may not be very original it is very pleasant and if the Developer continues on its momentum this game can only be better. For only €5.99 it is clear for its money.
