Riven: The Sequel to Myst reviews

Warning: to play riven nowadays, you must use ScummVM: http://scummvm.org/downloads/. Thanks to him, I crossed the game under Windows 10 without crash or backup problem (but in English... There is a patch en that works with the version of GoG on the other hand, not managed to make it work with the version of steam). All this aside, riven is always an incredibly immersive, fascinating, complex game. Immersive thanks to the complete abandonment of the player, left alone to explore this strange world, and to the coherence of his universe: the characters played by actors are rather well integrated and the mechanisms manipulated have a practical function, rarely placed artificially to make us solve a riddle. Fascinating through the strangeness of his universe (steampunk-Aboriginal-mesozoïquien?) and its richness (the NI, the writing, the numbering), of this pre-calculated 3D, of these natural sound effects and of these gliding music. Complex because the game is hard, filled with useless or crucial elements to advance, paths separating and hidden areas. The scenario is also complex, offering different viewpoints on current events and a little grey characters. As soon as you want a game with an original and intriguing universe and support an important difficulty capable of picking up many players, riven is a must.

This is a great classic game, intriguing and challenging and with superior graphics in its original format. Therefor it is very disappointing that the graphics are not optimised to the ipad but only to the iphone which is not at all suited to this game. It will be great on the ipad's screen though, so don't hesitate to indulge in this experience once an ipad-customized version is available. Until then it is waiste of money.

Just like with the Predecessor Myst, you can't really find your way around at the Beginning and you have to try every Switch, every button, every way to understand any Connections to each other. Not always everything makes Immediate sense at first. That's why I played it again with Pen and Paper on the side and wrote down every little piece of Information. Some things became clear even after another many Hours of Gameplay. Riven is much heavier than Myst, which may be due to the larger Island. That's why I had to use 1x to Solve it, because I just didn't know any more. Unatient Players will probably use it much more often. But I have to say: You Can explore the Islands yourself and discover something new every time to push the Story forward is much more Fun! And you always find something new, because hardly any supposedly useless switch is pointless in Riven;) Enjoy playing!

Finally I'm back! You can't put it any better than others have already described it here: Myst and Riven have always been Vacations for the Mind. Fantastic, ingeniously realistic Worlds, Feelings of Happiness and unexpected Experiences Await the Player at the first three Cyan Games. After that, the Series becomes like Matrix III-it gets copied and you want too much. After Myst I have already sent a long Thank you letter to Cyan, after all they have completely reinvented the adventure game and expanded it with fascinating emotional and physical Elements, giving the Fun of playing for Friends of contiguous puzzles to 100% Leaves up. So Also a heartfelt thank You from me for the iPhone Implementation. But If only the Water would move as wonderfully as in the Original ... That must be possible, right? Then there would be the 5th Star from me. Conclusion: If you are looking for the heaviest, most beautiful and longest Puzzle game, you are the right one. Load!
