Shadow of the Beast reviews

This was a short, enjoyable sidescroller that delivered more than I expected. I new when this was coming out this was a remake but I had no idea this was a remake of an Amiga game. The general gameplay is one of those easy to learn, hard to master deals. It is fairly straight forward and fun but has enough depth with timing and combos to be interesting. I think the story is pretty basic plot wise but I love how to ramps up to a jetpack fight at the end, so good. What I really love about the game is the art style and direction. It really evokes the art of some of those older scifi novels that seem to mix future tech with sword and sorcery. I really enjoyed the music as well. The game also features a bunch of unlocks that includes dialogue translation for some of the enemies and bosses. While I like this as a concept, they are expensive so it's clearly padding for multiple playthroughs. That's fine and all but I feel like I'm missing out on something along the way. There is also and unlock for the original Amiga game which I didn't enjoy as the combat is very different. I really do like the idea of more devs remaking old games people have never even heard with modern concepts.
