About

A young man stands alone against the rising tide of chaos as spirits spill into the human world after centuries of rest.  Displaced by his family, he must make new friends if he is to solve the mystery of the unrest among the spirits.

Spirits of Gaia is the working title of this retro inspired overhead action-adventure game.  Gain spirit powers to solve puzzles and exorcise evil spirits from objects and living creatures!

Inspired by: Legend of Zelda : Link to the Past, Secret of Mana, Secret of Evermore, and Kirby's Dreamland 3.

The music used was purchased.  All of the environmental art was either bought or CC-0 tilesets.  The player art is placeholder and currently uses Secret of Evermore and Secret of Mana art.  The UI is original art by me.  The other characters are art that I bought.  Not counting man hours, almost $100 has already been invested into this idea.

It's still pre-alpha.  The combat is not quite there as I would have liked for this release.  The boss created for testing is also unfinished.  You also cannot get a game over yet.  Think of this more as an interactive reveal! 

Controls:

WASD for movement and menu navigation

Enter to make a selection or progress a text box.

J to swing your bat(3 swing combos if timed!)

K and L to fire assigned spirit skills!

What is in this demo:

A taste of the direction the story is going in.  A composer would be awesome but I did find music that suits the style I wanted to portray so enjoy it!  The entire player system is in as well as how it works.  The basics of combat are there but it needs AI.  The text box system is in as well.

Where I want to go:

END OF JULY: Two dungeons at least completed to alpha status.  That means they can be finished and all the mainline story interactions(dialogue) also implemented.  

END OF  AUGUST: The other two regular dungeons finished to alpha.  

END OF SEPTEMBER: All bestiary finished.  All dungeons close to beta.  All world environments completed to alpha(optional quests, dialogue, as well as tiling).

END OF OCTOBER: All puzzles beta, all dungeons ready for release, the entire overworld into beta, and the start of the final dungeon.

END OF NOVEMEBER: Entire game into release except the final dungeon which would be in beta.  Lots of testing - both internal and external.

DECEMBER: Release!
