Stay Afloat (lightheartedgames)

This is our first IP based on an idea we conceived at the Global Game Jam 2020. See here for the game jam game, which serves as our prototype.

In this local-coop game (currently 2-players), the pirates must keep their sinking ship afloat for a duration of time, while leaks keep appearing at the base.

The players must coordinate with each other to stay afloat by doing the following:

• Using the bucket to empty the ship of the water that's filling in through the leaks.
• Building planks at the work table and using those planks to plug in the leaks.

The less water that's inside the ship, the quicker you will be able to beat the level!

Each level will also have mechanisms that can be triggered by floor switches. In the current level it's an elevator.

To activate a floor switch, simply walk on it. A floor switch can only be activated when it's popped up (as opposed to being pushed down).

Controls:

NOTE: regarding the descending from platform action, not all platforms can be descended from. In this current level, there are no platforms that you can descend from.

Xbox (the recommended way to play):

• Analog stick - movement
• A - Jump
• Down + A - descend from platforms
• B - action, which includes:
• Carrying items (i.e. bucket and plank)
• Filling up water when carrying the bucket in water (press and hold)
• Dumping water out near the left/right sides of the top deck of the ship when carrying the bucket
• Building a plank near the workstation on the top deck (press and hold)
• Plugging in leak when carrying a plank
• X - drop carried item
• Start - pause/resume

Keyboard:

Player 1:

• A - move left
• D - move right
• G - Jump
• S + G - descend from platforms
• H - action/carry item (see above in Xbox controls for more info)
• J - drop the carried item (see above in Xbox controls for more info)
• P - pause/resume

Player 2:

• Left Arrow - move left
• Right Arrow - move right
• Keypad 1 - Jump
• Down Arrow + Keypad 1 - descend from platforms
• Keypad 2 - action/carry item (see above in Xbox controls for more info)
• Keypad 3 - drop the carried item (see above in Xbox controls for more info)
• P - pause/resume

NOTE: when starting the level being shown the controls in the game, press any of the following keys:

• Xbox A/G/Keypad 1
• Xbox B/H/Keypad 2
• Xbox X/J/Keypad 3

Win conditions:

• When the ship on the meter at the top reaches the treasure chest

Lose conditions:

• If either player jumps overboard
• If the ship is fully submerged in water
