タイピング'82

Taipingu'82 is a minimalistic learning game for the Japanese writing system. It helps you memorise the Hiragana and Katakana characters in test and training sessions. There is also a JLPT based learning mode to test your knowledge with Kanji.

Features Typing Test

This mode will present you with a set of Hiragana or Katakana characters. Type in the syllables for the characters to progress. The accuracy is measured through the session and shown in the main menu.

Memory Game

This mode will present you with a set of Hiragana or Katakana characters, including a list of possible choices. Select the correct answer with the mouse or type in the number of the button from 1 to 5. You can also switch to syllables to Hiragana / Katakana mode.

Help System

There are two major help systems in Taipingu'82. The overview screens for Hiragana and Katakana contain all character and their syllables. Use those screens to look up unknown characters. The second system is available in every typing and memory session. Press F1 or click on the help button to open a Japanese dictionary website with more information for the current presented word or character.

JLPT Based Training and Testing Session

JLPT training and test sessions are typing based. The Kanji set is oriented on the JLPT levels from 5 to 4. The training sessions help you with an English translation and the syllables for the Kanji.

Settings Theme

The game comes with two themes. The default bright theme and a dark theme inspired by Typed'82.

Music

The game comes with three music sets. A relaxed, casual themed set, a retro electronic set and a drone guitar ambience
setting. You can also turn off the soundtrack and play your music in the background.

Q: What is the accuracy bar?
A: Basically a visual representation of your last test recognition and typing accuracy.
100% would represent a full session without a bad guess. :)

Q: How to run the game on Linux?
A: You might need to make the taipingu82 file executable. Aka "chmod +x taipingu82".

Q: Why is Windows 10 scanning the app on launch?
A: That is a security feature of Windows 10 and should only occur on the first start. Depending on your system, that process might take a moment.
