After the really successful Car Act of The Bards Tale Remastered, which came only as a Byproduct of The Bards Tale 4, we were now, of course, all looking forward to the Debut Of the fourth Bardensaga, which listens to the Subtitle Barrows Deep. The Game was in Development for a few Years (my backer mail is from the 02.06.15) and was able to generate over 1.5 Million Dollars in Record time. Interestingly, by the way, inxile has butted another 7-8 Million into the Project to bring it to a finished Product.
More than three long Years have passed and the Result is now in front of us. So What can you put up With a conclusion after a few Hours of Play? What stands out first is the Optics--and which, despite Unreal 4 Engine, seems to have stopped somewhere in 2010--slurred texture included. The Developers had often posted Screenshots and Material to the Kickstarter backers, but the Whole thing still looked quite fascinating. Unfortunately, there is not much left of That. As an avowed Retroian, I am now truly not one who comes first in optics, But with the Engine, development Time and financial Cushion behind it, more than the Textures of a 5-Man cliffin should have jumped out.
The second Point is the entire Character System and the Hero Group. Unlike you're used to, you start the Game with a single Character, our Main hero. Others cannot be generated, nor can they be added at the beginning. In the Course of the Game you will encounter other Comrades-in-arms who can be taken with you, but the Essence of a Bard Valley has basically always been to get lost in the character Creation of the Group--and this Aspect is also lost to the game because it is no longer the Ri There are a selection Of Classes and Spells that, for Example, Bards Tale 3 has identified.
Third and final Point is the whole Feel of the game: It just has little to do with the brand The Bards Tale. The medieval fantasy flair has given way to more of a Scots scenario. The Group mechanism is not comparable. The EXPs and level are missing. The Mass Fights are missing. There are hardly any Recognition Values with the Surroundings, although you walk through Skara Brae. The Combat System is completely different. The Dialogue System and Governance are completely different. In the Ground, I really don't want to put it too hard, but it pretty much hits the Spot: If the Developers hadn't called The thing The Bards Tale And wouldn't have a Bard running around there--let's face it, the Game could have been called any other.
Why a Thumbs up anyway? Quite simply: Because the Game is Fun. I like, for Example, the tactical Combat System, which plays out completely differently from all previous genre representatives and, above all, better than that of the Originals. I like the Skilltree, which, while not so extensive, seems boisterous. And certainly the Story gives much more than that of its Predecessors--and I'm really excited about how the Game and the Story unfolds right now. Yes, some Things are still totally cheesy, for example when I walk 10 Meters past my Bunchers and they supposedly don't see me--who came up with something stupid, but never mind: I've got Buck on it and that counts at the Moment.
