Uurnog Uurnlimited reviews and comments

Translated by

Uurnog Uurnlimited is the refined version of Nifflas's latest game-exclusively available in Humble's shop until very recently. Fortunately, this review for steam expands and revamped what was seen in its original version. If you are habitual of the indie scene, it is very possible that you know its work (the Knytt saga was relatively famous in the first years of the indie boom). In the tonic of the rest of his creations, Uurnog Uurnlimited has a style characterized by simplicity, although this time the color palette is combined in more strident ways in line with the delirious and surreal screw that is breathed in every One of his screens. In any case, both the graphic and sound design are combined with elegance to give that unmistakable patina that identifies it as a work made in Nifflas. To do justice to Uurnog, it is necessary to mention the MIME placed in its sound aspect: an interactive system that prepares the music in real time depending on what is happening in the game. The Soundtrack has always been one of the most striking elements in their games and although in this case the songs are not audio tracks to use, they have enough entity to provide a perfect accompaniment. Uurnog could be defined as a Plataformera adventure in which puzzles and exploration are the central mechanisms. After Choosing the appearance of our avatar among several predefined designs, we will begin without further a small tutorial connected directly with the central room that will serve as a nexus for most of its challenges: the storage room. Uurnog's playable wink is that it will only keep intact what we enter into this room; Every time we go out or our avatar dies, the rest of the levels will return to their original state. This idea may seem strange in the first few minutes, but it is easy to understand its appeal. In some cases, In fact, it is essential to solve the most demanding puzzles. Both for artistic design and playable, you can hear the echoes of FiNCK-a free game of Nifflas itself, which explored this same idea in a shorter way-and Lyle in Cube Sector-another clasicazo forgotten the indie boom with which it shares surrealism and the omnipresent Cubes-. The development is relatively open and as has been common in previous titles, riddled with secrets and layers that it is difficult to foresee in a first contact. This version "Uurnlimitada" adds, in addition, a new huge section with puzzles and secrets more durillos to peel; As if it were not enough, it also has a very simple local multiplayer mode but it turned out that it allows to confront the puzzles from a totally different perspective. Perhaps his carefree and absurd tone is both his greatest virtue and his worst problem; The only thing that really criticizes his proposal is that despite being funny and evocative, as experience is a tad empty. Its design is elegant, original; Its captivating and enigmatic gameplay, but without much substance. Of course, this design philosophy is deliberate and the game is not intended to contribute anything meaningful beyond its artistic and interactive network, but coming from more personal and narrative works like Knytt Underground, it seems that the whole remains a little Lame. However, anyone interested in the retro Plataformeo should take a look; Regardless of its simplicity, the world of Uurnog is mysterious and fun enough to claim its small niche in the genre.
