https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VzD6x4qhfY8 What is Victory at Sea?
It is once again world War, to be more precise the Second World War. Instead of us going to the leather this time in some First Person shooter, or Strategy game with Land Units ... May we Fight the Battles at Sea between the Axis powers and The Allies. All this even in one Campaign. Sounds nice overall, but unfortunately you won't find much of the real-time Strategy or Simulation mentioned in The Description in Victory at Sea. Is it fun, however? More on that later ...
What to do?
Just fresh from the Navy Academy, as a young Captain, I wonder what to do for the following Years. There comes the world war that has just broken Out, of course, and since otherwise there are apparently few Personnel in the Navy, I can also directly build up my own Fleet with self-earned War bonds. I earn This by raiding the three Theatres of war (Mediterranean, Pacific, Atlantic) and doing Orders for the HQ, or just chasing Such enemy Fleets. Other Than that, I take Ports that also lead to the Victory of the Campaign and are the Focal point for Repairs and The Expansion of my Fleet. Initially, we can only buy Destroyers, but with increasing Experience and a higher Level, we can soon resort to larger Classes of Ships.
Fleet Association for All Equal & Axis Powers?
Since in the 1940s the USA and England apparently loved each other as ferently as never before we can choose under which flag we want to set Sail, but still can buy British and American Ships in port. So it is pure Taste Question which flag I want to have on my Ships.
Currently, you can only play on the Allied Side in the Campaign. However, The Developers want to deliver a Campaign for the Axis powers by Patch. For the other Game Modes (Random Battles and Historical Battles) we can already go into battle with a Bismark.
Click me to die & the AI The control of Victory at Sea is done via the Mouse. We select a Ship, determine the Speed and click in the Direction where we want to go. We can select weapons with the Number Keys and then see their Firing range and Radius. One Click within this Area fires the Weapon. The Game can be paused at any time so that you can give multiple Commands at the same time. This is also needed if you don't want to Entrust your Ships to the Stumzdoofen AI and lets the Game degenerate into a pause > Play game, especially towards the End. Although the Battles can be seen with large Ship associations. The Models may not be extraordinarily well modeled with Details, but battle Feeling comes up.
While the simple Control and flat RPG Gameplay do not create a Simulation Mood. You can destroy Subsystems of Ships and there are few different Weapon classes, but overall Victory at Sea is more likely to depart For a Casual Sea Battle simulation. If you don't have a Problem with it, you can have Fun here. But anyone Who, for example, found the last "Pirates!" As a Casual in the Battles and didn't like that, will get a Heart Attack here.
Multiplayer?!?!?
Unfortunately, there is no Multiplayer in the Game. Upon Request from the Developer, I received the information that the Focus is on the Campaign and you can see afterwards whether you have Resources to integrate a Multiplayer. That's why I say it's unsure if an MP will ever come.
Conclusion Lws €22 for a Casual Sea Battle Simulation With "free" campaign that actually only requires Me to take ports and chase Supply Ships? Conditionally yes, but only if you can live with the fairly simple Game Design. I can't deny that it's Fun to expand your Fleet and sometimes you want to bite yourself in your own ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ when you lose one of your Ships in a Torpedo Salvo. It is simply motivating at first to expand its Fleet and thereby become stronger and stronger. But I can imagine that this Fun dissolves relatively quickly into Thin air as soon as you reach a certain Size with your Fleet. Then you only have to conquer the remaining Ports and conclude the Campaign with it.
So anyone who historically doesn't like quite as correct and simple Sea Battles is welcome to access, while everyone else is easily interested here should really wait for a Sale to buy the Game for < €10€.
