Wrapped in a Silhouette
About
Grandma’s in the hospital. It’s okay; it’s just a broken arm, not like Grandpa. She’s getting released tomorrow. You’re getting her clothes from her house.
Estimated 6–9-minute playthrough.
CW: strong language; mention or description of off-screen infant death, the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, cancer, racism, and feelings of abandonment.
This is an interactive work of fiction with multiple endings. The bulk of it was ideated and written in Inky in 48 hours and tossed into Unity in 48 more. Playtesting was followed by minor edits and an overhaul of one of the endings.
One ending is inspired by an interview with an atomic bomb survivor filmed in the 1982 Nippon Television Network Corporation documentary Maboroshi no Zengenbaku Firumu, Nihonjin no Te He, as well as whispered conversations in my own family of atomic bomb survivors and descendants. We nearly became maboroshi ourselves.
Made with Inky, Unity, and Affinity Designer.
