Yono and the Celestial Elephants reviews and comments

Translated by
Microsoft from French
Yono had been unveiled at a Nintendo direct for the Nintendo switch on the next independent releases. Among the crowd of games, there was one that intrigued me more than the others. It was this little elephant with ultra cute and colorful graphics. Like a cartoon. Adoring adventure games, I was curious to see what he was giving. I was able to do it on steam and here is my review. Before anything else, you should not stop at its graphics. There will be some who say it is too "childish" style but it makes good of colorful universes. And then Yono has a nice little buil. His wish is to help people, to make them happy. At the beginning we will have to find marbles for a child or do some other small quests. We walk in an unopened world but he still has several areas and houses where we can enter inside. It is not great, but it is far enough, especially since there are many regions. We can talk to the locals. During our journey and our crossing in cities, forests, caves, cemetery and catacombs where you have to re-ignite the flames to see and other places, we will have many puzzles to solve in the dungeons. Unfortunately they all rest on the same style. It is possible to push crates with the head and put them on the good slabs to open doors and several puzzles with switches, mechanisms, retrieve keys and put them in the switches but most of the time you have to push the crates in the right place. If at first it seems easy, the sequel gets complicated a little bit more. For the youngest as for the older ones it will take a little to break the head to find the solutions. And it is this progression of the game that is good. We travel, we discover the landscapes, we talk with the children with humour, we meet lots of wacky characters like the grim reaper, we solve puzzles. When one dies there is a teleportation system with wagons linking each passage. It is unfortunate not to have a map to know our position. The death in this game is a little punitive since it is necessary to repeat long paths sometimes. As a means of playability, Yono can therefore push with his head or break rocks but he can also use his trunk to take water and extinguish fire or wake people asleep. He can also use his head to put vases or other things on his back like keys. Let's not forget he's an elephant. He has no pockets or inventory the poor. It's all done with his back. Thanks to his attacks like any good elephant that respects himself, he can attack enemies by doing a charge and giving the wrong shots. They are not everywhere but the fight exists in this game. By killing them or breaking vases later in the adventure we get letters. These letters will be used to reveal texts of the history of the game on a book. Pretty well done. The rest of the points serves as a currency and you can buy skins from the sellers. Some are super beautiful like making Yono in Celestial or cloud mode. By recovering 4 fragments of hearts one can enlarge our life bar with more hearts like a certain Zelda. Speaking of Zelda, this game is very inspiring. Dungeons with traps, villages, puzzles, we find the same mechanisms. It is not for dismay. In the end, Yono is a lovely game with a very colorful graphic paw. We travel a lot and we do lots of beautiful and amazing encounters. The game is not really difficult apart from a few puzzles but overall it can be played by the whole family. It's good for "little" games like him. It lacks successes for the profile of the game steam because it simply does not. Would it be possible to have some?
