Ys I: An absolute Classic and, on top of that, the Starting Gun for a great action RPG series! It's quite amazing how well this Game has held up. It is certainly a Remake, but the Basic Framework Is still based on the original Ys, which Anno was released in 1987. The fast Gameplay is second to none and offers an excellent Balance between Simplicity and Entitlement. You can rush straight into the Game without pushing through any Instructions, but if you want to play Through Ys, you should already bring a certain Amount of Skill and Mind. In Short: A true retro classic and absolute Mandatory Title for every retro player and Friends of the action Role-playing game! Pro and Kontra: Pro:-very brisk gameplay-simple and ingenious "Anrempel" combat system-beautiful Sprite graphics in 16-Bit style-cool J-Rock soundtrack with earworm warranty-requires Initiative in Researching the Game world and Solving the Item puzzles-numerous, sympathetic supporting characters-fluid and configurable keyboard And controller control Neutral:-about 5-7 Hours of Playtime-offers only a small But open game world-a classic Plot without any real Special Features Kontra:- For some, it could be too "retro," because you just have to look at where you stay-the "Anrempel" combat System probably does not please everyone either-some boss fights seem unfair, because you can often not prevent Inlaid damage and it is not even allowed yet Inserting Aids such as healing Potions in a Boss fight = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Consistent Continuation Of a Classic Who liked the first Part will also like the Second. The Core Game Elements that made the Predecessor so good have been retained and supplemented by new Things. So Adol gets a few Spells provided and the Scope of the Game has just been doubled. Away from some minor Changes that fall within the Realm of personal Taste anyway, only the Soundtrack can actually be cited as a real Point of criticism, and only because it doesn't match the earworm brilliance of the previous Game. However, this is Metering At a very high Level, because Ys II is also a great action Role-playing game, which will give Fans of retro games and action Role-playing games a lot of joy. Ys I & II Chronicles + is simply an excellent Remake and a great Compilation for all those who have always wanted to experience the Beginnings of this beautiful action RPG saga. The Price of £11.99 is also very fair. Those who do not strike here are to blame themselves. Pro and Kontra: Pro:-the Benefits of Ys I also apply to The Sequel-the game principle has been expanded to include spells-the Duration of The game has been increased to about 10-14 Hours-further Details (gift system, higher level cap, ...) Neutral:-Ys II does not offer an Open World like its Predecessor, but is structured-a classic Plot without real Specifics-the Degree of difficulty has been changed, fights are now lighter, but the adventure elements for this Sophisticated Contra:-could For some to be too "Retro," because you just have to look at where you stay-the "Anrempel" combat system probably does not please everyone-the new Soundtrack does not come close to that of the Predecessor The full Review: http://www.gamecontrast.de/ys-i-ii-chronicles-review/#more-60361

The game itself is pretty small by today standards but if you keep in mind that there is no map the size is quite fair. Graphics aged really well and playing in the Complete mode with art and sound from 2001 is bringing an unforgettable sense of nostalgia.

As for gameplay and story: there is 20-30 minutes learning curve but after that, the experience is very captivating and the story makes this small pixel reality vibrant and alive.
