Matthew Armstrong
Matthew Armstrong is a video game scriptwriter and game designer best known for creating the Borderlands franchise.
Career
Matthew Armstrong began his career in video game industry in the late 90s as a level designer. Some of the earliest games he has been working on are WCW Mayhem and WarGames. He took part in the development of Half-Life and its expansion, Half-Life: Blue Shift. He also was a design lead on Halo: Combat Evolved. Armstrong joined Gearbox Software in 1999 as a senior designer. He is a creator of popular Borderlands franchise and was a writer, director, and designer for the first game in the series. Through not being a credited as a developer in any of the game’s sequels, Armstrong has been a franchise director of Borderlands since until he left the company in 2015. As a designer, Matthew Armstrong worked on the various project outside Gearbox Software. Being one of the game designers in Activision’s 2009 action game Prototype, he became a game design director for its 2012 sequel Prototype 2.
