Asteroid Miner (felbj694)

Delve deep into the asteroid belt and extract its treasures.

Upgrade your ship to survive the unforgiving environment and return with your cargo hold full of valuables.

Design

There are two unique points about this game

    Procedural real time high fidelity asteroid destruction

    Light and shadow significance

        Without light or other sensors nothing can be seen

Gameplay loop

The main gameplay loop has three parts:

Prospect - Mine - Upgrade

In between there is navigating the asteroid field where danger lurks.

The main risk is asteroid collisions. (ship is invulnerable for now)

So far:

Prospect
    Only visually from main camera. Where light falls on asteroids ore can be seen.

    Xray view where ore can be seen (temporarily disabled)

Mine
    Ore density increases deeper from surface

    Grab onto asteroid and drill surface

    Use hammer to cause fracture

    Ram asteroids to cause fracture

    "Throw" asteroid on other asteroid to cause fracture

    Pick up small enough rocks

Upgrade

    None

Controls

Mouse - Turn to pointer

WASD - Strafe

Space - Fire main engine (has warmup)

. - Toggle strafe mode (relative/absolute)

G - Target closest asteroid and start grabbing / Release asteroid

M - Once grabbed, disable engine and climb around using arms (WASD)

Left mouse - Use tool

Tab - Switch tool

Left ctrl - stop velocity
