About

Blades of Time is an action-adventure hack-and-slash, a spiritual successor to 2007 game X-Blades.

Plot

The game follows Ayumi, a treasure huntress and the master of gun and sword. One day she and her partner Zero get stuck in an alternate universe known as Dragonland filled with treasures and secrets. Know she must find her missing pal and escape the Dragonland.

Gameplay

The gameplay mostly consists of fighting enemies and solving puzzles. The player can use Ayumi’s twin swords and rifle as well as different skills and magical abilities. The hero’s primal moveset consists of the sword attack, kick, tossing enemies in the air, jumping, shooting and dashing. The player can also perform finishes on weakened enemies, resulting in their instant death. The most notable mechanics in the game is Ayumi’s ability to rewind time. Activating it allows the player to set some actions after that is performed by Ayumi’s another-timeline clone. It is useful in both combat and puzzle-solving. Defeating enemies gives you souls that can later be exchanged for new skills and magic spells. Through the game, Ayumi travel through different locations, some of which can alter certain game mechanics. For example, while in the desert you should stay in the shadows as long as you can because the sun is too warm.

Blades of Time reviews and comments

Good Ideas poorly implemented The Headline actually says almost everything. The Game has interesting Ideas, which unfortunately don't work so well. The Best Example is the Ranged Weapon: Yes, this is especially interesting in Conjunction with the time jump ability, unfortunately the Game lacks an Auto-target function for this. With the Gamepad, you can forget about the Goal. With The mouse and Keyboard you can aim well, but the Melee degenerates into a Spasm. Constantly switching back and forth between the Input Devices was just too annoying for me at the End. Speaking of The time Jump, That's really the only thing that sets the Game apart from everyone else. You can not only turn back time, but create a Timeline. And you can repeat this several times, so that for a short Time Several Ayumis jump through the Area, fight and shoot. And it's considerably more than just a gimmick. There are Enemy Types where you absolutely need the Time Jump to defeat them. Overall, though, the Game is unfortunately more of an Imposition. The Graphics are good, sometimes okay and sometimes terribly bad. The Character Models are almost embarrassing, especially Ayumi and Michelle. Sure, you wanted to go on "sexy," but it seems rather ulchy. The Dialogues are usually rather Monologous and at least questionably translated (Japanese Synchro, German Subtitles). Japanese Synchronization, by the way, is surprisingly good, but that's more because of the Speakers themselves than what they say. The Story is inconsequential. After about 1.5h I stopped the Game as I didn't want to waste any more Time on it. It doesn't really motivate you to do that either.

So first of all, I played it on Keyboard and Mouse (who cares) and you generally have to be damn fruit-resistant! For Hotheads, the Game is probably nothing in general;) It's supposed to be easier on Console (no Idea). I can still be able to see the Graphic. The Fights are very dynamic and it's really Fun to fight your Way through the Hordes. The Opponents, like the Main Character, look really good or "fearsome";) I always really like the "gritty Fantasy style." The Story had unfortunately become more of a Side Thing for me, kind of going down bit at all the Hubbub. Although it is really well set to music and also the Main Character, here and there while denying the World, sometimes something of itself gave. A big Drawback here, however, is that unfortunately it is quite busty and we are NOT talking about small Bugs here. No the RIGHT annoying! The Game is from 2012, if I see it correctly, there should have been one or the other Patch by now?! ... To give a few Examples what I mean by "annoying":-At the first big Boss, at THREE attempts, just before the End every time slicked through the GROUND at the SELBEN Spot! -Two other Bosses (I had the Mistake) only lost their Lives while fighting after a Restart. (No it was NOT because of the wrong Weapon or something)-You can choose between multiple Weapons and a Compass back and forth. From time to time THAT worked again only after a Restart of the Game (annoying when this happens in the middle of the Fight) As you notice, at such a Game where you have to react damn quickly, since the Opponents are already on "normal" of my deemed bock-heavy, it's all totally to Kot to put it very clearly! Real seems a pity because it was otherwise really Fun, especially if you have mastered almost all your Skills. Of course, the Thought came to me already at the Bow with the first Boss to give the Game back (we are talking about 3 Tries in a row!) only for that too much Time had elapsed, so I boxed myself through it and luckily I didn't regret it anyway. Unfortunately, is not enough for a Recommendation ...
