Making Games To Help Kids Make Memories t h e   s t o r y

Christie Lake Kids ("CLK") is an Ottawa-based charity organization dedicated to enriching the lives and prospects of economically disadvantaged children by providing quality year-round community and camp programs to develop physical, social, and character skills.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, CLK reached out to Snowed In Studios ("SIS") to help organize a digital alternative to the annual Canoe For Kids fundraiser that is an integral part of raising money for their life-changing programs. As a result, SIS organized a small Game Jam with our employees and local post-secondary students to develop video games around the theme of "Canoe Race". In 48 hours, three teams of Snowmies and students successfully developed a trio of charming games that have brought CLK's long-running tradition to a new medium in style!

This page has been put together to share the fruits of our game jam labours and to provide an opportunity for anyone enjoying these games to donate to CLK's great cause. This weekend, June 5th, is the 25th anniversary of the first Canoe For Kids fundraiser and we ask one thing:

2 Can Canoe

Developed by Snowmies Quentin , Billy, and Tom alongside students Natalia and Eduardo. This game is an adorable top-down race to the finish where players choose a pair of whimsical animals to paddle their way through a gauntlet of logs and whirlpools to the beat of a song while collecting Loonies to earn the highest score.

Canal Conundrum

Developed by Snowmie Matt alongside students Benjamin, Robert, and Colt. This game has players choose a custom canoe and test their coordination in a challenging excursion down a tastefully recreated section of Ottawa's world-famous Rideau Canal. To win, individually control 6 old-timey paddlers with varying paddling power to propel your way to the finish in record time.

Paddlr

Developed by Snowmies Eric and Joel alongside students Aiden and Claudia. This game is a fast-paced race to collect buoys around a stylish replica of Ottawa's very own Mooney's Bay. Players must follow their trusty compass to reach each collectible and keep their motivation meter high enough to boost their multiplier and achieve the best score possible.
