In an Interactive Fiction, you are the main character, and you may write commands to affect the world around you. Commands are usually a verb (e.g. "jump") that may be followed by a noun (e.g. "take key"), and most feedback you'll receive is in the form of text. Examples of commands are:

- "JUMP"
- "GO NORTH"
- "TAKE KEY"
- "USE KEY in DOOR"
